Weren’t you there for the opener against Man C? I actually thought the crowd were surprisingly positive for most of that, especially bearing in mind what’s gone on the last couple of weeks. Most of the crowd’s anger was directed at the ref.Georgee Paris wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 10:01 pm That was shocking - no passion no nothing. Never seen the crowd so despondent against a top team - ever.

If you don't think Haller put in a ton of running you weren't watching very closely.
He ran a ton. First half he was all over the pitch from sideline to sideline. In the second half there was a stretch where he was coming back to press in midfield with Snodgrass switching to the top to get a breather.
Haller was quite good in this game. It isn't the role he should be playing, but he ran a lot today.

Re: West Ham Utd v Liverpool: match thread
Was expecting a lot worse. A lot lot worse.
The referee was from Bootle. The var team tonight was Cilla Black, Jimmy Tarbuck and Stan Boardman.
Halle is a waste of time. We may as well play with 10.
We saw the best of Lanzini 3 years ago. Hes gone.
I thought Jeremy did well. 19 and making his debut against the bin dippers is no mean feat.

Re: West Ham Utd v Liverpool: match thread
It is hard to create anything with Haller up front.
When he is outside the box he doesn't show for the ball, or run the channels or look to run behind.
When he is in the box and we have a player looking to cross he doesn't try to lose his marker by pulling back, or going to front post. He just stands there.
Even if you play the ball to his feet he never wins a 50/50, let alone a 40/60.
Players moving forward with the ball have nothing to pass to.
I get that he can be isolated at times but he does himself no favours. Every now and again he will produce an impressive bit of skill, but he seems to have no strikers instinct at all

We didn’t even try. Everyone in our own half at 2-0, one sub all game.
Haller has no one to support.
Lanzini has a shocker but didn’t deserve his reception.
That performance was squarely at the manager’s door.

Re: West Ham Utd v Liverpool: match thread
Better than expected. But walking away from a game against Liverpool at home feeling positive because we only lost 2-0 and didn’t make complete fools of ourselves is pretty depressing.
Don’t get the ngakia call. Don’t get lanzini. Hopefully the new singing can fit straight in as that midfield needs some help.
Thought rice and masuaku, as mentioned, were our best players tonight. And what a different it makes with fab in goal, couple of great saves in a relatively quiet night for him in the context.

Liverpool were piss poor but still we couldn't lay a glove on them. Desperate times.

Liverpool hardly broke into a sweat. Absolute procession with not a single minute where the result was in doubt. They controlled possession from beginning to end.
That West Brom performance has clearly softened a 2-0 home defeat for some. I saw nothing much to be positive about tonight - we can’t score under Pullisdyce Moyes, Noble is utterly knackered, and Fab was the one bright spark for me.

Give me the evidence on that and ill admit I was wrong. My view is that he was lethargic and failed to close down the passing lanes between defence and their midfield.Cellar-door wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 10:18 pm If you don't think Haller put in a ton of running you weren't watching very closely.
Happy to proven wrong if Opta says so.

Re: West Ham Utd v Liverpool: match thread
This is all nonsense. I can think of 3 times in this game alone where he made a very good run and a good delivery gets us a very good chance at a goal.Crouchend_Hammer wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 10:20 pm It is hard to create anything with Haller up front.

1st- When they turned it over and Ngakia botched his cross right to the keeper, Haller made a strong run and had the CB behind him.
2nd- Ngakia cuts inside, has Haller making a run to the far post, botches the through ball right up the middle
3rd- When Rice almost scored, Haller had also beaten his man badly and if the ball gets past Rice he's through on goal.
Haller is at his best playing off other players, but he makes plenty of good runs every game and he's far from static on the rare occasions we have the ball on the wing.

Re: West Ham Utd v Liverpool: match thread
I'm relieved that the margin was only 2.
One thing thats so clear is the absolute lack of pace across the park.
I realise that Liverpool were extreme in their work rate but without Antonio and Anderson we look pedestrian. Lanzini looks like he's being bullied most games as he cant go through the gears.

Re: West Ham Utd v Liverpool: match thread
These players should just be used for impact sub purposes or after they've had a 2-3 week rest: Noble, Snodgrass
These players aren't good enough and need getting rid of immediately and replaced with athletic players who can actually run , tackle and are physically strong : Wilshere, Lanzini, Fornals, Sanchez, Yarmolenko, Zabaleta, Masuaku
We've just got a large number of players who aren't at the level required for PL , maybe even the Championship.

Re: West Ham Utd v Liverpool: match thread
Watching the first half highlights, looked handball from firmino and wasn't a foul on origi.
We had a lot of balls out wide and didn't deliver a single accurate cross, must have been 6 times in good positions in the first half.

I wouldn’t start either him or Lanzini on Saturday.

I’m with you on the Fornals thing mate. You’d think he was Kevin de Bruyne the way people go on.hammer1975 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 10:07 pm He was better than Noble and Fornals today imo - yet his performance will be lumped in with the former and everyone will say the latter should start ahead of him on Saturday.

Not exactly sure what Lanzini is supposed to do when he gets the ball with one immobile player in front of him... But let's jeer off one of the few bright lights in the last half decade of West Ham.

Clearly miles apart but we still had some decent chances. I thought rice was our standout player and i was also encouraged by our young right back. Thought he defended well and got forward when he could.
Other than that not much to shout about but did think the crowd were better than recent weeks

Liverpool were poor tonight and there for the taking if we wanted a go. They didn’t do anything for their win.
For about three minutes we pressed them and we won the ball back each time. Then we reverted to a 5-4-1 with Haller fighting both centre halves all game.
Fornals came on and played wide left, allowing Masuaku to slip in at left back.
Moyes is a disgrace.

Their second goal is a ****ing disgrace, Noble, then masuaku, then noble again, then lanzini, it's absolutely awful
