Good summary DL  I agree with it all.

I'm just bitter about last night and him being pleased with it. Hopefully I will get over it soon. :scarfer:

Since they lost heavily to Leicester Southampton have played 8 away games:-

W - 4
D - 1
L - 3

2 of the 3 losses were Man City and Liverpool.
They've beaten Villa, Chelsea, Leicester and Palace and got a draw at Arsenal.

Only the top 4 have a better away record. They've got the worst home record in the league. 1 point worse than us.

No mugs on the road.

But the 3rd loss you didn't say was Vs Newcastle away. We can do this, but again, it depends if our mob are up for it.

Newcastle have the joint 2nd best defensive home record in the league. Only 12 goals conceded. We've conceded more than double that.

I'd be shocked if we get anything. It's possible, but I'd be surprised.

Luckily for us, Southampton have an even worse defense than we do!

They've also won 1.5x more matches than us, have a striker who has scored on a regular basis, recently, and a coach who went back to the drawing board, after a thrashing, and turned around their season.

Yes - their reliance on Ings is a weakness that can be exploited.

When was the last time West Ham exploited anything, other than it's own fans?

Amen to that, SH!

The Saints game is an absolute, must win game. Whatever it takes.
I'm no way saying it's an easy game but if we don't win these sort of games, we will fully deserve to go down.

Difficult to use only losing 2-0 at City (when it should have been 5 or 6 but that’s not relevant, apparently) as a positive note for other games. We got that score by defending with at least 10 players, we can’t do that against Southampton and the rest. It would be insane.

That’s the problem with that kind of game, we learn nothing.

Sadly true, but who in our team has the bottle to stand up to that kind of pressure? Who has the charisma and leadership to drag the rest of the team to victory? What happened last time we were in a must win game and 2 up twice?

Back to the drawing board huh?

Ozza wrote: Thu Feb 20, 2020 5:51 pm so why not bring a forward on after the second goal, that makes no sense?
Because chasing a 1 goal deficit with 10 left is an option, chasing a 2 goal deficit (against city) with 20 left would be begging to drop 2/3 more goals.

We were set up so defensively that IF you were being infinitely kind to Moyes and say he hadn't just given up on the game before a ball was kicked (big if) you could say he was keeping his powder dry hoping for a small deficit (no more than 1 goal and IF possessed of the luck of the gods even) with 10 to go and then throw on Bowen, Anderson and Haller and have a go for 10.

City have panicked and rushed a bit when they've not been ahead towards the end of games and that's where he may have been banking on there being gaps to exploit on the counter. Dropping the first as early as we did and in the way we did allowed them to sit and pick their punches, they did and landed one to make it 2. From that point we went from damage limitation and hope for an opening to simply damage limitation.

All that is if you want to be as generous to Moyes as you could possibly be.

So why bring Bowen on at all? Put a few minutes in his legs? Give him a prem debut with zero pressure on him so he feels more comfortable in a game like the Southampton one without that added "I want to score/be the match turner in my first prem game" hanging over him?

The drawing board was sold in the summer as part of the Obiang deal.

I think we got a single Etch A Sketch in return.

Ironing Board wrote: Thu Feb 20, 2020 3:59 pm A goalkeeper of Fabianski’s class should be saving that all day long. He is probably very disappointed himself that he let it through him.
To be fair he was probably thinking De Bruyne was going to square it and was expecting the cross, but unfortunately De Bruyne is a ****ing good player and took the other option. The question should really be why did Slowble allow him to pass to Silva then just run unimpeded to collect the return - Noble was **** and slow yet Moyes continues to play him, at one point Rice ran past him to make a last ditch tackle.

Or you know some coaching staff to use the second hand one they bought from a school that was chucking it out and they came by and said hey we'll give you our whole youth team budget for that blackboard, but we're chucking it away you can have it for free they say, nonsense if we give you the river we were going to spend on youth we can say how we spent the whole budget on training equipment upgrades and leak it to Jim "the puppet" White.
