I challenge you to lose to my GSB XI.

Does exactly what it says on the tin - the forum for football-related discussion.

7Mish total, so about 5m cheaper than the list by overchuffed.
Some bargains work, some don't. Spending doesn't seem to work for us either though lol.

rules: All players had to have been signed for us under the the three stooges, and had to have played at least one first team game in our shirt. The goal is to put a team out that can lose to my team. There are so many options but I’m intrigued to see if we get any consensus choices!

Roberto
Arbeloa Pogatetz Relegator Armero
Petric Sanchez Barrera
Zaza McCarthy Mido

Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: Avram

I believe there are no goals in my team, so good luck losing to them!
Hard to disagree but I'm going to tweak the shape and go with a 3223 with 2 wing backs. I've put in brackets their age when signed, the cost (taken from transfermarkt), and the season signed.
GK - Roberto (33, Free, 19/20)
CB - Pogatetz (30, Loan, 12/13)
CB - Diarra (31, £2.25m, 12/13)
CB - Johnson (30, Loan, 13/14)
RWB - Arbeloa (33, Free, 16/17)
LWB - Evra (36, Free, 17/18)
CM - Wilshere (26, Free, 18/19)
CM - Sanchez (32, Free, 18/19)
ST - Zaza (25, Loan, 16/17)
ST - McCarthy (32, £2.34m, 10/11)
ST - Petric (32, Free, 13/14)

Manager: Avram Grant

The bench is made up with a lot of strikers.

I think it shows why a lot of those didn't set the world alight, only 2 players under 30 (Wilshere and Zaza) and only 2 players where a fee was paid for a transfer (Diarra and McCarthy).

-------------- Roberto ---------------

Armero -- Arbeloa -- Potts-- Evra

----- Petric - Diarra - Tore --------

-- Chamakh - Mido - Mccarthy ---

Your team had a combined 16 wins for West Ham.

Mine has 5.

Sanchez, Roberto, Arbeloa, Evra, Wilshere....the £ paid for pure crapness is probably the worst in the country. Carroll's roughly £1.5m per goal is an argument for inclusion.

Depressingly brilliant thread this

I don’t think relegation Rog belongs in that opening 11, otherwise it’s spot on. Swap him for Wayne Bridge and jobs a good un

Anyone leaving Big Benni or Pogatez out doesn’t known how lucky they were not to have seen those two in the flesh.

Outfield Roberto levels of *****

Johnson won 3 games as a West Ham player.

Sanchez has won 6.

Practically Messi levels of brilliance compared to some on the list.

Pound for pound Roberto's record looks truly exceptional when you work through the list.

Usually in most "worst XI's", it's sods law that a few of them go on to have decent careers elsewhere.

With ours, they're generally so old the next move they make is into punditry or coaching :D

Am I the only one who didn't think Roger Johnson wasn't THAT bad?
I didn't think he was that bad at all. I mean, the whol team was crap at that point. I thought his subsequent reputation was primarily built on preconceptions and expectation!

Of course, MC did trounce us 6-0 in his first game, but what did we expect?

Pogatetz would be my captain for his performance against Spurs where he came on late with us winning 2-1 and we lost 3-2 thanks largely to his complete and utter ineptitude.
Pogatetz is the worst footballer I've ever seen play for us. He was totally out of his depth and a walking calamity.

EVERY single team must include Mido and McCarthy. No goals then is guaranteed

He wasn't. He had a nightmare first match being thrown from the 3rd Tier straight into the Lion's Den - away at the country's dominant force, Man City. He'd barely had a chnace to train with his new team-mates!
He actually improved very considerably after that game, and by the end of the 6 months was quite decent. But unfortunately for him, the stigma of that 1st game - and that infamous video of him 'defending' against Yaya Toure - just stuck and never went away..

Personally I can't stunned how anyone wouldn't put Patrice Evra as first name on this teamsheet  , but I guess looking at the suggestions so far I am alone in that!
Someone on here described Rogers defending “like a dog barking at a hoover”. I spat my tea over my laptop that day.

Good times

Also Zero wins between the two of them as well. Chamakh also with 0.

Brian Montenegro is another appearance maker with 0 wins.

Armero, Rat, Bridge, Evra, Masuaku

I’m noticing a trend that we are particularly bargain basement useless in a certain area of the field!

(incoming examples of how we are exactly the same at EVERY position)

Hopefully this thread further highlights the ineptitude of GSB.
Premier League, or Championship, I'd say we need at least 3 new full backs.

On the topic of Roberto, this from a few weeks back is rather interesting. Either as example of how stats don't tell the whole story *or* that he wasn't quite as bad as he seemed.

Wilshere isn't crap he is just injured all the time and shouldn't have been signed. If he is fit to play he doesn't make these teams imo.

A team of what ought to have been would be a pretty depressing read too.

Sadly those are the key stats

Roberto (although Randolph in his first 8 games was almost as bad)

Arbeloa
Pogatetz
Diarra
Evra

Bentley
Sanchez
Hitzlsperger (ship-jumping Bank of England cosying prick)
Barrera

Mido
McCarthy

Bit old school as I think the quality of our signings has generally increased but at the expense of depth and balance.

Also outlay in terms of fee but mostly wages also accounted for.
