I challenge you to lose to my GSB XI.

Does exactly what it says on the tin - the forum for football-related discussion.

My West Ham team would lose to all your teams because you’ve all made the mistake of picking strikers who never score.

As we all know, as soon as a commentator mentions “X is on a lengthy goalscoring drought going all the way back to the days when Alan Shearer had hair”, you can guarantee they’ll score against us that day.

In the unlikely event that we ever face Simone Zaza again, I’d expect nothing less than 3-4 goals for him. Probably score a penalty after doing a stupid run-up too.

rules: All players had to have been signed for us under the the three stooges, and had to have played at least one first team game in our shirt. The goal is to put a team out that can lose to my team. There are so many options but I’m intrigued to see if we get any consensus choices!

Roberto
Arbeloa Pogatetz Relegator Armero
Petric Sanchez Barrera
Zaza McCarthy Mido

Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: Avram

I believe there are no goals in my team, so good luck losing to them!
That team managed by BFS would still take at least a point off our current crop. Probably three points with a last minute winner off of Mido’s left arse cheek.

Can't believe no one has Carroll in their team,

he is the obvious choice as striker if you need don't want to score because he will be in the treatment room.

3-4-3 formation

Roberto

Evra
Pogatetz
Ben Haim

Tore
Diarra
Wiltshire
Barrera

Mido
McCarthy
Chamakh

Found it tough picking a rb hence the formation

The sheer churn of players tells a story, and despite seeing all bar maybe a dozen games of the GB era, I can honestly say that I have no recollection of quite a few of these players ever actually playing for us.

Chamakh for example in my minds eye was just a case of me having too many in the pub and I sort of imagined him playing for us but dismissed it as a beer memory.

The relegator though wasn't all that bad, nor was Rat.

Chamakh wins double kudos; dog mess in our shirt, but scored against us for Palace

Some very harsh stuff on Roger “magic” Johnson. Can’t remember the oppos but about his 5th or 6th game the chant went round “he’s off to Brazil, Roger Johnson....”.

So he wouldn’t be in my team-to-lose

Mido’s £1k per week deal will always strike me as a red letter signing. He was playing limited enough football and was more or less done at PL level. He was another striker, who had a history in the PL, and he was being signed on a short term deal, at about £16-£20 Grand all in all. The wisdom undoubtedly was if he performed like Ilan, he was a winner, if he performed as he ultimately did, it was almost no loss.

I honestly think the vast majority of clubs would balk at somebody who dropped their demands like that.

Completely agree. Unfortunately many only remember Roger for his backpedaling from Yaya Toure up at City in the cup semi final.

Personally I'd have Moyes as manager.
I'm not necessarily going to argue (especially the Moyes we have in charge right now), but Avram's Premier League win percentage is a masterful 18%.

Andy Melville. We used to call him " the cone" because he moved with the speed of one.

I disagree. I think too many have forgotten *just* how funny that was. He runs 40m yet never gets within a boat length of another human.

It is funny now. At the time in Manchester on a Wednesday night not so much! :D

I agree. He made one of the best tackles I’ve ever seen in a West Ham shirt.

It was against Man Utd, the league cup game in the snow. An absolute cruncher on Bebe who was writhing around in agony after. Ben Haim just got up, gave him a filthy look and walked away like a boss.

Top man

Edit:

There’s a video of it on YouTube if someone more savvy than me can put it up....
