Think it would be basically the same team as last night except possibly Zab for Fred. minimum 4 for the scousers and no doubt lots of praise for how well we played and frustrated them. Magic Moyes claret n blue army....

Zab for Fredericks at right back
Drop Snodgrass deeper into Nobles role
Play Anderson up with Antonio (Snodgrass’ role)

It was only a few seasons ago that we beat them at Anfield and were saying that this was the worst Liverpool team in memory and that we'd caught them up. How things can quickly change in football!

Maybe Bowen for Haller to help track the fullbacks but that is what I'd go with.thejackhammer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 3:33 pm Fabianski
Diop Ogbonna Cresswell
Ngakia Snodgrass Rice Masuaku
Soucek
Antonio Haller
1-1
Of all the top sides, Liverpool are the one you want to sit off and hold your shape as they are not good at breaking teams down. They are very talented but most of their goals are transition goals. They won't do what Man City did as they don't have the players for it.
Clearly still a very tough game but one that plays more into Moyes' hands.
Don't get me wrong I still expect to lose!

Re: ⚽ Liverpool v West Ham United:Match thread (24/02)
Team to start the game...
----------- Fabianski --------------
Ngakia Diop Ogbonna Cresswell
------ Rice Noble Soucek --------
Antonio --------------- Snodgrass
------------- Haller ----------------
Team to end the game (for at least the last 30mins)...
----------- Fabianski --------------
Ngakia Diop Ogbonna Cresswell
---------- Rice Soucek ------------
---- Bowen Lanzini Anderson----
------------ Antonio ---------------
Would give us plenty of food for thought head of Southampton. Can't see us starting at Liverpool away with that second line up as it would be far too weak through the middle. Southampton at home though, a different game altogether. And that is the one we need to be aiming for.
I'm not sure where the Fornals fan club has appeared from (seems as though he is talked up more and more each time he misses a game, mainly due to us being so poor), he hasn't done enough to justify a place in the middle of the park for me. He has done OK out wide for us, but when he is asked to play down the middle, he has been woeful. Same goes for Lanzini, although we all know he can do it as we have seen it. If their attitude is not right then I absolutely understand why they are being kept out of the team.
I can't see anything other than a very comfy Liverpool win, although it would be very West Ham like (historically, not this current crop) to go up there and win, being the only team to beat them in the league this season.

5 at the back again, Antonio on his own up too again. Try and hold on for 85 minutes and then think about having a go... Again.
Drop a goal inside 20 mins, barely touch the ball in their half for the whole game, less than 5 shots, maybe one on target and a minimum 3-0 loss.
Even if we lose by 6 Moyes will say how well we played, how we couldn't have done more and how its been a difficult couple of fixtures but he's still confident in beating the drop.

There must be an obscure German word for the peculiar emotion summoned by watching Declan Rice striding up the middle of the pitch in recent weeks. Something which incorporates the feeling of witnessing the flowering of a wonderful new dimension to something familiar, mixed with the bittersweet sensation that it's value will be to someone else.

Think the only saving grave from a complete tonking will be them having the 2nd leg against Madrid in mind, and the fact they already have the league sewn up so just 2 or 3 nil.

Re: ⚽ Liverpool v West Ham United:Match thread (24/02)
Be nice for us to turn up and try or seem to be trying.
The Man City game our attack plan seemed to consist of kick up to Antonio to beat 4/5 Man City players and hope Souciek could get up the field to support him.
Our defence was just to try and keep them out. Stay in a "shape" so they would find it hard to break us down. Time and time again, Noble and Snodgrass would be marking space. City passed and moved. We simply do not have a squad that can pass and move.
I do not know what they did in training but it just seemed that when the oppo had the ball was to line up as back 5 and then 4 in front. Do not know how long they had to train due to the mid winter break?
Moyes has been with us for 2 months(ish) now and we still look like a team with no direction, no pace and no idea.

We won’t score, they will score at least two. Both of those are absolute certainties.
A pointless game as Moyes will have the exact same attitude (and probably the same team except for Fredericks) as against Man City.

Bound to lose, if we make it hard for them the ref will have to intervene,
if that fails and it's still 0-0 Klopp will be forced to bring on Var at halftime.
We will score a goal from Antonio but Var will spot that his fart was offside in the build up.

Jordan Henderson out for 3 weeks with injured hamstring. Now if we cant get the rest of them plus the reserves injured we may be in with a shout for a 0 - 0

I can't wait to see us play Southampton. Our players with no morale but Moyes grinning like a Cheshire cat as we only let in two goals against Liverpool reserves.
He's expecting a win but I'm not. A demoralising 2 all draw or even a defeat before our next trio of difficult games. Now does he park the bus again for spurs wolves and arsenal?

Here’s a novel idea, how about playing our best players?

Ngakia Diop Ogbonna Cresswell
---------- Rice Soucek
-Bowen Anderson
------------ Antonio -
Haller --------------
Subs:
Randolph, Fornals, Noble, Snodgrass, Balbuena

Lanzini is arguably our best... wouldn't you play him??
