New Zealand 1 Slovakia 1 (Group F)
No thread on this yet so I might as well.
As a Kiwi I'm being realistic about this. NZ are lacking the pace and skill on the ball of top class international teams. We have some good finishers up front in Smeltz and Killen with Ryan Nelsen (the rock) at the back whose achievement of being a captain in the premier league is underrated in NZ. However, i'm not sure our midfield cope (Hamsik will be a handful) and I worry that we will be chasing the game and possession. On the other hand the team has a lot of heart and has improved immensely. A win against Serbia, albeit in a friendly is not something to be sniffed at. The chances for goals will be few and far between but if the ball bounces the right way our strikers can take those chances.
NZ will set up 3-4-3 because our best players are strikers and we have no real LB and RB. This means that our wing backs have to do a lot of work. Bertos on the right is not a defender and could be exposed and Lochhead on the left isn't very good. Watch out for Reid (Denmark U20) and Smith (England U20) at the back with Nelsen and Smeltz (2x A-League golden boot up front). We are missing our number 1 goalie and our number one midfielder.
--------------------Paston---------------
Reid------------Nelsen----------Smith
Bertos--Vicelich--Elliot--Lochhead
Smeltz----Fallon-----Killen--------
Heart says: NZ 1-0. I won't tell you what head says.

Let's just say, not one to rush home for. Ivory Coast / Portugal should be match of the day, but have a horrid feeling even that one is going to be a huge, bore draw too

Reckon this could be one of those games that looks like it has 0-0 written all over it from the start but ends up being a belter finishing 4-3 either way will be watching anyway as have no need to get out of bed

I'm still pissed off about that.
When I first opened that thread, my gut instinct said pick Slovakia. I went through the fixtures again, and still was going to go for Slovakia. Then for some reason, at the very last minute, I picked Italy
I had to double check the thread today to check that I had actually done that, as it was only a niggling feeling that I hadn't picked Slovakia that made me check the thread, and of course I then remembered I'd picked Italy. Why? I have absolutely no idea!
I get the feeling the game could be a lot better than the likes of Lineker were implying last night. I mean, we've had very dull games involving the likes of France, England, Italy....just because the Slovaks are a smaller nation it doesn't automatically mean their games will be dull. I actually quite fancy them to do well. When I say do well, I don't mean win the thing, but I wouldn't be surprised if they made it out of the group

Hamsik has obviously played a much higher level than everyone else on the pitch. The guy is class. Wonder where he'll end up.

I am sure if the Dagenham Girl Pipers entered a team into the Oceania group, they would qualify too. I have stopped supporting the Commonwealth teams as they hate us, so I am hoping Slovakia win...purely because of LudoJonG86 wrote:Good?
I could go to the park and watch a decent pickup game of 11 vs 11 with more technical ability than this, but im too lazy.
