I want a couple of penalty shoot outs to add a bit of spice to the mix. Say, you don't think we will see the first one on Tuesday evening, do you ?

Can't remember a World Cup (and I've seen a few) with so many group matches that have had me on the edge of my seat. MY memory may deceive me here, but this year the final round of group games seemed to have more games in which a goal in the final minutes could (and sometimes did) change the entire qualifying result. I found it great to watch, and if the knockout stages continue in yesterday's vein, it'll be a great World Cup, contrary to my expectations.

To echo CS, the fact is, I cannot think of a single World Cup that has been more thrilling to watch, at least this far. More goals, more skill, more fitness, and no shortage of drama. In the two games yesterday alone, there was some scintillating stuff - 10 goals in the first two knockout games? We’re only 20 minutes into the third and we’ve had another.

Might not be one for the defensive purists, but it’s been a right goal fest so far.

It's kind of sad as well though this world cup as we have probably seen the last of Messi Ronaldo and Iniesta

3 of the best imo

I agree that it's sad that those players won't be at the World Cup again, however we have to face it out of the three only Iniesta and Ronaldo have performed at world cups in their career, don't think Argentina have ever utilised Messi properly at any tournemount!
I actually feel sorry for Messi, such a great player!

not sure Ronaldo has been much better than Messi at the W.C. think Messi scored something like 4 and Ronaldo 7 - inflated a bit by his stats this year.....

Thought I saw something like this today...

Twatter statter............

Only one keeper has saved 3 penalties in a shoot-out before Danijel Subasic It happened exactly on this day in 2006 - approximately 12 years & 3 hours ago, when Ricardo helped #POR knock out #ENG

With Schmeichel also saving 3 today, 1 July is clearly a day for keepers!

EDIT: Just as well England were not playing today :P

Well on the way to being the best World Cup I remember.

I’m obviously biased though because it’s the one we’re going to win 8-)

Looking more & more possible that it's The World Cup's turn for a Premier League 2016 type upset...
Or even a Euro 2004 upset...
England winning would be an upset. Wouldn't it?

It's been fantastic. Before the tournament I was planning on watching the England games, and a couple of others. I've watched near enough every game; very few have been a let down.
