I don't usualy bother with county cricket but that was a fine advert for the game yesterday. Great to see plenty of local lads in the team as well alongside the overseas stars. I counted three born at Whipps Cross hospital!

Roll on Monday and four days of rain!

I can't cope with this Essex winning, West Ham winning, I even had a winner on the horses yesterday

I'm finding it traumatic I'm just not used to not having some disappointment over the weekend

Cracking result for Essex Eagles in the T20, and a great performance from Harmer.

A few more days and they could well do "the double".

Amazing for a "small" county.

What yesterday really needed was about 20 balls less per innings. I was speaking to my sister and her and her kids just couldn't get their heads around anything past the 100th ball :thdn:

Bairstow dropped fromm the England Test squad. Actually I reckon it's more being 'rested' - why else would they give him a new Central Contract only a few days ago? The NZ tour doesn't count to Test Championship, so agree it is the perfect time to try new players.

HOWEVER, what I find really strange is the England T20 squad. I understand they are probably mindful of the amount of cricket Buttler is playing, so that explains his absence, but to leave out Ravi Bopara is just mental!! Headbanger

I've read that Ravi has had a falling-out with the ECB's powers-that-be, but don't know any more than that.
What is strange is that Essex, with a limited overs trophy this season and taking the County Championship to the wire, as well as being third last year, and unbeaten champions the year before, have no-one in the squad.
Jamie Porter, with more wickets than any other English bowler since 2015, doesn't get a look in.
Somerset, also with a limited overs trophy this season and taking the County Championship to the wire, have three players in the England squads, with Leach in the red-ball & Banton and Gregory in the white-ball.

^^^

The Porter one is odd. But honestly, I don't think anyone else is worthy of an England place....yet.

Harmer qualifies in 2021, on current form they’d be mad not to even in his early 30’s. Can he keep it up is the question.

He's not quick enough for test cricket 80mph just doesn't cut it at that level, same with Cook.
Leaves Essex with a decent enough county attack though

Harmer has played test cricket for South Africa can't really agree with allowing him to play for England

Yeah, there's not really anyone in the Essex team that'd get into the main England teams. Harmer is a Saffer, and Essex's other bowlers are the usual by-product of playing all our county championship games on green seamers in April and September.
