2016 Tour de France/Vuelta

Post by Bend it like Repka »

The greatest race in the world is under way! (waits for all the drugs comments to commence)

Looking forward to an epic battle in the mountains between Froome and Quintana.

However at the moment it is all about Cav. I thought maybe his best days were past him, but he is back and on fire, 2 stage wins so far and now second on the all time stage winners list, with only Merxx ahead of him.

That stat makes him right up there with the greatest British sportsmen ever. he's still got it! :scarfer:

Did not see this coming from Cav at all.
Saw him in the Nationals last week and he seemed to lack a bit of zip.

Yep, he's up there with my favourite British athletes ever - and one of the most underrated. When he was riding for HTC Columbia, he was genuinely untouchable in the sprinting world. So good to see him back winning TDF stages.

Cav wins again! :scarfer:

He's giving Kittel nightmares, sitting in his wheel and then popping out and blowing by. It's like the Cav of old from 5 years back.

Great stuff. I thought he might drop out early to save himself for Rio but that won't be happening now.

Correct.

All the way to the Champs for him now. Will be close for the green jersey though.

Comical scenes near the finish as the giant inflatable 1km arch collapses on the riders.

What a Tour for Brits this is turning out to be. That was a superb ride today, even better based on the fact I backed him in play at 6/1:)

Poor old Yates. The Arch could not have timed it any better.

Yates's (and other affected riders) times have been adjusted to the gaps at 3km, so he goes into second place.

So we have Brits in three of the four jerseys

Yellow: Froome with Adam Yates 2nd
Green: Cavendish
White: (young rider) Adam Yates

Still a long way to Paris but nice to be in with a shout.

Agreed, his descending style was devastating and a brilliant tactical manoeuver to attack going downhill when nobody expected it. However, going downhill like that is very dangerous. On a bumpy road I would imagine a massive crash to be on the cards because there is no weight on the rear wheel and the bumps will cause it to come off the road. I don't expect he'll need to do it again though.

If Froome gets through tomorrow without losing any time, that'll be job done again. Very impressed with Adam Yates: I bet he'll be in Sky colours in the next couple of years.

Movistar and Quintana and anyone else who fancies standing on the top step needs to attack tomorrow. If the rest of the GC teams don't gang up on and try to break Sky, it'll be another procession to Paris. I don't think they can leave it to the Alps.

Only person who cab take on Froome is Quintana. He has to attack today.

However he does tend to get stronger as the Tour goes on, while Froome cracked on the last day last year. So may be staying in touch at present will be enough. All the rest are fighting for the podium unless the leaders crash.

Farcical organization...or lack of. Froome commented a few years ago about the crowd giving the riders no space and looks like he called it. Maybe they'll start doing something about it now.

They have to neutralise the stage, can't see any other option tbh.

Froome still in yellow and extended his lead. I can no laugh at him running up the mountain now.

That sort of incident has been on the cards for years. When you rely on people not to be dickheads you have no chance.
