Welcome to the inaugural Aintree picking competition!
I'm getting this up now to hopefully increase exposure before the three days of racing starting on Thursday and culminating in the Grand National on Saturday late afternoon.
For those who haven't seen, we run a Cheltenham one of these every year for ages and I felt like it was time we did it for Aintree too as there is some very classy jump racing action coming up this week.
As always, this is just for fun and everyone is welcome to take part.
The way it will work is as follows
Give selections for each race on each one of the 3 days, eg. Post your Thurs picks on Thurs morning, Fris picks on Fri morning etc.............or anytime before that day's racing, as some people need to post their picks the night before.
Points scoring.......10 for winner, 5 for a second and 3 for a third. A dead heat will be disregarded and full points awarded for whatever place it may be..............
A difference from Cheltenham will be that if you select the winner of the Grand National itself you will get 20 points instead of 10 - if you NAP it too it will be 30 altogether plus the odds points
- I have implemented this as this really is the ultimate highlight of the meeting.
Also to have an added dimension there will be extra points for every winner at 4-1 or better, this is to reward better priced winners. So the extra points would be scored as follows
A winner between 4/1 and 4.99/1 would get an extra 4 points
A winner between 5/1 and 5.99/1 would get an extra 5 points etc............
This would continue up the scale until 33/1, so for example a 33/1 winner would get an extra 33 points but a 50/1 winner would also get 33.The SP will be how this is calculated.
Non Runners will automatically go onto the favourite..........if more than one favourite it will be the horse nearest the top of the racecard.
Please give a nap, for inexperienced players this means the one of your selections which you think is mostly likely to win, just put (nap) after the horses name, if it wins it will double your score from 10 to 20 but the SP points will NOT be doubled. If you fail to give a NAP, it will automatically be set to whichever of your picks has the lowest SP.
Entries will only be included if posted before "the off" of the first race on that particular day.
