Root desperate for his 5fer, just went for 28 off of a single over against Maharaj.

Re: England Cricket: tour of South Africa
This has been a really 'coming of age' tour for many of these players. Right now it is probably a Foakes away from a good, balanced team / squad once you consider Parkinson is a viable leg spinner (Crane is also still young enough to push on), Olly Stone and Jamie Overton (when fit) are good alternatives who can hit quick speeds (to go with Wood and Archer). Batting-wise you'd expect Crawley to be dropped for Burns, however he has shown plenty of promise for the future. He needs to now go back to Kent and score a truck full of runs.
Bess - I'm not too concerned about his lack of 'special' ball if he can show this level of control to an innings - more often than not that is what you need from a spinner in test cricket to build pressure which results in wickets. Lyon doesn't particularly have much variety but that's not what he is needed for... if Bess can be our Lyon than that's perfect from my perspective.
A positive return on this tour was exactly what we needed after quite a few changes recently...
SA on the other hand... they look as lost as we have many times over the last 2 - 3 years.

An innings victory overseas, would have laughed at anyone that predicted before this series
South Africa are poor but some of our young talent such as Bess and Pope look very promising, and will hopefully be looked after
Most exciting thing about this Test was Mark Wood. Look after him, don’t run him into the ground and hope his body can hold up to Test Cricket. I cannot wait to see him and Archer bowling a fiery spell together in a Test Match. Ideally next year over in Australia...

Some great performances from our players so far this series, considering we're a team in transition and lots of new players are coming into the side.
Seth Efrica on the other hand look woeful. That's as bad a test performance as I've seen in a while barring that last 10 overs.

Well done England.
Root was a bit desperate for his 5fer wasn't he?

Bit of a silly risk trying to get a Michelle, with a possibility of iffy weather about. Still, we got over the line in the end.

I know I'm being a bit harsh here, but in reality we bowled some utter filth on day 5. I think all our bowlers were guilty at trying to snatch at the last wicket a bit.

Wood is a fitness doubt for the final test apparently

Gutted for him & us, I like Wood as a person and as a cricketer, some sportspeople are just very unlucky.
Buttler needs to have a good test for sure. A very talented player that I still think could be an asset to the test team, but in Foakes we are not short of a good replacement, that's without mentioning Bairstow.

Buttler's been poor with the gloves as well as the bat. I'm amazed he's still in the team.
Re: England Cricket: tour of South Africa
I keep looking to The Ashes next year. England would ideally want all 3 of Wood, Archer and Olly Stone fit and firing but that seems near impossible.

Re: England Cricket: tour of South Africa
Archer pulled up injured in the warm-up. Running him into the ground in New Zealand really wasn't a very good idea.

Doubts over Wood...and Archer gets injured in the warm up.
Obviously a quicker pitch but harsh on Bess.
