Re: Summer transfer talk/rumours

I think its a little naive to believe that someone who is really ITK, and genuinely very close to the action, is going to come on here and broadcast details of incomplete multi million pound commercial deals like transfers if they value keeping their jobs.

With any one else its usually third party info at best, and it doesn't take that long to work out whether they really know much.

From what I've seen in the last 15 months on this board the golden rule is - if you want to know what's happening, ask a woman.

Curbs at the Prince Regent - who spotted him - a woman

Bellamy at Holly House - who spotted him - a woman.

Quality.

But its nowhere near a top 4 side.

Adebayor + RvP
Torres + Kuyt
Drogba + Anelka
Rooney + Tevez

Even Berbatov + Keane

then going abroad you have partnerships like

Henry + Eto'o
RvN + Robinho
Villa + Zigic?
Forlan + Aguero
Trezeguet + Del Piero
Pato + Inzaghi
Ibrahimovic + Cruz
Pazzini + Mutu
Klose + Toni
Benzema + Fred

Etc

These are all capable of top 4 partnerships, not Crouch + Defoe

What would have been more accurate is if you had said 'most people with ITK status do not regularly post transfer gossip on here' ...
100% correct UTJ

or you could say.....

many people with ITK status do regularly post on here.... however they do not regularly post there transfer gossip (mainly for risk of being flamed and ridiculed)

which imo is a damn shame.

I think the dearth of ITK is more due to the fact that a lot of journos no doubt trawl these sites for easy stories and the ITKs have stopped posting because of it.

Oh and because they just get a shitstorm of abuse if they happen to be wrong.

It may also be because West Ham are less active in the market, and they are running a tighter ship in terms of information control.

The days of self publicists like Redknapp and Pardew were a dream because they just loved hearing and reading about themselves, and perhaps embraced the idea of getting the fans excited with transfer talk. Loose words and the like. Curbishley clearly does things differently.

I think you'll find that Everton got into the top 4 with Marcus Bent as lone striker after the magnificent James Beattie got injured.

Didn't Leeds do it with Alan "goal machine" Smith up front?

Its bizarre but when we finished 5th under Redknapp none of our team got into double figures for goals.

Apart from the pain of checking in here and finding nothing but hot air, I'm actually pretty happy that we're off the radar screens. With a bit of luck it means we might actually make a couple of decent signings without getting ripped off or beaten to it by Spuds or whoever else. Less talk, more action. The opposite of last summer. Fine with me.

Yep, they had Smith, Keane, Fowler and Viduka and either through fitness or form none were prolific.

We got the quarters of both cups and 5th in the league with Kitson, Hartson and Abou as our strikers.

I'm not sure there's too much evidence of flaming and ridicule where ITKs are concerned, Gavin - if posters did so the chances are they'd be turfed off, after all. The biggest problem we've faced in the past has concerned some of our (usually younger) members harrassing ITKs for info (although a warning usually does the trick).

Well we could start making it up like certain other sites ... heard the one about Bastien Schweinsteiger?

Sell a dozen shirts with his name on and we could afford Henry

Rooney has 14 goals, the same as Crouch. According to the font of all knowledge (wikipedia) the vast majority of those have come against sides that aren't exactly top draw. With almost twice the amount of caps that Crouch has.

He's a decent (if ungainly) footballer.

Will anyone else not be that bothered if we actually don't sign anyone during the window?

I would like someone who can play left wing, and cover at left back.

Nzogbia preferably, however if nobody came it wouldnt be the end of the world.

It depends how fit our "injured"players are, if we start the season without the likes of Bellamy and Upson I will be pissed off. We cannot aford a bad start.

Yeah perhaps. There are plenty of positions we could improve upon without a shadow but if we even had half the injuries we had last year, I fully believe we'd be more than capable of undertaking a prolonged Uefa place challange. Imagine we had the type of season Villa had last year.

I would be okay with no one coming in provided we start the season with a fit squad.

I would like to see us move on a couple though poss Bowyer, Davenport, LBM.
