Re: January 2016 Transfer Rumours
You'd let him go with a handshake and for free without bringing in a replacement ? What is it about suddenly giving our players away for free (as with the rumoured impending Jelavic transfer to China) ?
We are pretty short staffed at RB after the Jenkinson injury...

If there is a fee of some sort involved, will be hard to turn it down for the clubbubbles1966 wrote:Mail claim that Sunderland want Joey.
For O'Brien too, If he could get some games in at full back for Sunderland alongside the ROI captain O'Shea too it could help his case for a call to the Euros

Re: January 2016 Transfer Rumours
HamburgHammer we have Sam B, JOB and Tomkins to cover RB for now. It's LB which worries me with only Cressie as Hendrie clearly isn't rated and Page is also out on loan so we'd probably have to put JOB or Ogbonna in there as there's no-one else and JOB would do a job (no pun intended) but he ain't a LB.

We aren't really short at right back.
We've gone from Jenkinson, Tomkins to Byram, Tomkins, O'Brien.

Re: January 2016 Transfer Rumours
We have Byram at RB (unproven, we cannot be certain he'll be our starting RB immediately), Tomkins is inured currently and not a natural RB anyway. If we have to lose O'Brien I hope we ask for a fee as we need strength in numbers for the rest of the season.
Our players will not suddenly stop to get injured a lot.

I love that after Sky chose to not bother in the summer on deadline line day and we bought in 3 or 4 they sent someone down to Chadwell this morning to be told by Slaven we aren't doing anything.

Re: January 2016 Transfer Rumours
I'd rather we didn't let Joey go right now. Even if he's only substitute (I think Byram will be ahead of him, especially with no Jenkinson and after his debut) he's a good head to have behind the scenes and can help Byram out in the early stages if he needs some guidance.
That said, could see why he might want a move for the Euros.

Re: January 2016 Transfer Rumours
JOB is 30 next month, out of contract in June, and is partial to an injury. I'd be amazed if you could get £1m out of anyone for him right now.
I think Ogbonna is seen as back up LB at the moment (he played there when Cresswell missed a match before). That's ok (in the short-term), but with Tomkins injured too it could leave us short.
So, basically, I'd keep JOB!

Re: January 2016 Transfer Rumours
With regard to the right-back situation.
We are a little bit bare there to be honest. Our current first-choice is a center-back, our first reserve has played 70 mins of Premier League football in his entire career and we have O'Brien who was on the way out 2 years ago.
I think we have enough to cope, but a lot is reliant on Byram hitting the ground running.

Yes I would . He cost us nothing and has done all that has been asked of him .HamburgHammer wrote:You'd let him go with a handshake and for free without bringing in a replacement ?..
Goodwill is in short supply in this cynical industry , it would be a small bit of good PR for the club .

Whoever in the squad is slotted into the back up fullback role they wont be any worse than O'Brien. If we can offload for any sort of fee then we would be daft to turn it down. O'Brien is on a very good wage as befitting someone with Curtis as their agent. Get rid.

The only game Cresswell has missed, he was replaced by Jenkinson (and then at half time, by Tomkins).bobd_uk wrote:I think Ogbonna is seen as back up LB at the moment (he played there when Cresswell missed a match before).

He's always in a pub in Canary Wharf, there and Sports Direct. My mate sees him limping around everyday as he goes to and from work.BR7 Hammer wrote:Are we signing someone on Loan from Monaco?

Just as an aside, why Monaco?
