From that list earlier, Swansea haven't signed Emnes, his loan to Blackburn has just ended.

The exact same reason we're getting rid of Payet.sendô wrote:No but with a club like West Ham we only have so much £s to spend. It strikes me as the typical kind of signing we make in January. Why are Southampton happy to get rid of such a good player?

Re: Transfer Window: January 2017
I'm pleased we are bringing in a replacement for Tomkins but it still just seems like really poor business to let him go for £12mil with probably another 8 years in him then spend £8mil on Fonte who has, as best, 2. Fonte is perhaps a better defender but then Saints bought Van Dyck, who is better still, for £11.5. You have to assume that being as we signed Oxford for longer that he will be coming in for Fonte/Collins when they move on but shouldn't we be starting to play him now?
Right back, we do have Byram and possibly Nordveit.

Oh Damn you West Ham you have only gone and signed a top quality centre half ....this means you definitely wont be signing a Right Back

Perhaps? Fonte is 10 times the defender Tomkins is.kitthehammer wrote:I'm pleased we are bringing in a replacement for Tomkins but it still just seems like really poor business to let him go for £12mil with probably another 8 years in him then spend £8mil on Fonte who has, as best, 2. Re: Transfer Window: January 2017
That is the equivalent of "why sell George Moncur for a few quid and bring in someone like Payet who is nearly 30" being bandied about last summer. Fonte is considerably better than Tomkins - there isn't even a debate to be had about that. Yes, he may only have 2-3 years left, but you'd hope we'd be looking for Oxford and/or Burke to have stepped up by then.kitthehammer wrote:I'm pleased we are bringing in a replacement for Tomkins but it still just seems like really poor business to let him go for £12mil with probably another 8 years in him then spend £8mil on Fonte who has, as best, 2. Let's also remember that Collins is out of contract in the summer and I seem to remember that Reid doesn't have too long left on his either.

Apparently it's written into his contract that he will only play on Sunday - Monday .

I would say based on the fact that I can't remember the last time we signed a decent right back and also with how long we've needed one that this post is nonsense!JLCABA wrote:Oh Damn you West Ham you have only gone and signed a top quality centre half ....this means you definitely wont be signing a Right Back

For me, if we're looking long term then the question is; what can Oxford and Burke learn from Fonte? £8m is a drop in the ocean if the development of those 2 is enhanced by Fonte's addition. Not to mention what it could mean for our current squad for the next 18 months or so.
Re: Transfer Window: January 2017
i still don't see how bojan or snodgrass improve our first team.
defoe - definite no for me and totally different situation than fonte. not because of age, money or his previous history here, but it's the style of play teams have with him. similar to bent or benteke, they score goals, but the teams they are in are unbalanced and consistently average. i would prefer to have antonio or ayew up there and have goals come from all positions with all players chipping in defensively.
johnson - i seriously can't believe we're in for him.

The last I read from a KUMB ITK is the brakes have been put on, presumably depending on the Defoe outcome.

That's Zarate, Behrami and Diamanti they've signed in the last couple of years. Do they have any ex WH staff there?!Nesticles wrote:Transfer Centre Live @TransferCentreL 3m ago

I can see Defoe handing in a transfer request. When? Is anyone's guess.

Re: Transfer Window: January 2017
I'm not quite sure of this "learn from Fonte" argument. Can they not get that already from Reid or our other experienced defenders?
