The computer print out just came in, the answer is 42 apparently.the celestial insect wrote:I suppose the one thing we can say is that we didn't lose Lanzini or any other indispensable first 11 players this window. That's the only positive.
The overall squad is lighter. The board don't appear to have demonstrated ambition or a coherent and competitive transfer strategy. They have neither backed nor sacked the manager, meaning that they didn't spend in any meaningful way on bringing in current targets, or replacing him while they could have pursued the targets of a new manager. What conclusions are we supposed to draw?

What if he kept us up?bubbles1966 wrote:
A fair price for what you're getting in return.
How far up from 11th would Carvalho lift us? Would we go down without him? Is he as good as other players for the same price in the same position?
Hart costs £2m for a year (Randolph was sold for £5m) and his wages are 40k a week - bang average. Seems fair to me.
Why are you using 11th as the benchmark? That was last season. We could finish 17th without him, 8rh with him?
If he had a good season we would get 20 million on top of what we paid for him. That's value, irrespective of where we finish.
"Value" is something Sullivan uses when he doesn't want to spend money. Yet he is the man who spent 8 million on a 32 year old. That wasn't value.
How can a chairman determine value when he has such little football knowledge. No other chairmen ever use this word. They back the managers judgment or they sack him.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017
Was Carvalho's rumoured wage of £40k per week value for money?
If we're going to talk about the transfer fee being high then presumably we also need to factor in the relative wage.
5 year contract for WC would have cost £10m
Signing an £100k per week star centre mid would cost £15m more.
If he's not a success then the wages are less to write off than a Robert Snodgrass transfer. If he's a success you benefit on the pitch and/or in resale value whilst having to give the player a payrise.
If we brought him for £35m and £40k wages he's a financial commitment in line with Arnautovic. But a few years younger.
I know which one I'd have preferred we spent our money on. I bet Stoke didn't need the wedge up front though.

Really good points from him, pretty much bang on the money and I'll be amazed if he isn't a member on hereAceface wrote:Presume this might have been flagged already - James Corden venting about Sullivan and Bilic

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017
Fair play on Corden. Spoke a fair bit of sense.
Anyone else notice as soon as he suggested Sullivan signed Snodgrass the radio presenters desperately tried to push it back? Who was it that said Sullivan had a bit too much influence over the press?

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017
Wow.....
Under a bus.Late last night Sporting Lisbon made contact to accept the original offer, but unfortunately it was just too late in the day, and we simply did not have enough time to put the player through a medical.
"We were not prepared, as a club, to buy a player for that amount of money without him having gone through adequate medical checks.
"Grzegorz Krychowiak and Renato Sanches were both offered to the manager before their switches elsewhere, but he told us that he is happy with the squad he has.
"As a Board we are behind Slaven, and he believes he has the tools to turn around our form and rectify our disappointing start to the season."

Yeah, not buying that one, Sully.

Couldn't they have agreed the deal before the deadline - subject to passing the medical. Others i'm sure have got around it that way.
