West Ham want Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan in January
EXCLUSIVE: Chelsea midfielder is yet to start in the Premier League this season after going to the World Cup with England

Maurizio Sarri has slammed the door on a West Ham move to take Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan.

The Chelsea and England midfielder is wanted by Manuel Pellegrini in the January transfer window to strengthen his Hammers in the centre of the park for the run-in.

But opposite number Sarri has ruled out 22-year-old Loftus-Cheek being farmed out anywhere this season, even though his only three starts so far have come in two Europa League ties and last week's Carabao Cup win over Derby.

LB - cresswell isn't any good anymore and Arthur is a LW not a LB really.
RB to replace zaba this summer
CB to provide cover as ogbonna is poor and reid always injured
CM - to replace noble and provide cover
DM - to provide cover to obiang and rice
CF - to provide cover to arnie as carroll always injured, perez is poor and Hernandez cant start a game.
LB - Agreed.
RB - Fredericks was bought for this very reason.
CB - Ogbonna, Reid, Rice & Oxford is more than enough cover for the 2 positions.
CM - Sanchez, Fernandes, Snodgrass can all cover this position and Cullen at a real push.
DM - Sanchez again.
CF - Agreed.

No way will we go out and buy 6 players in January. I've said before on this thread but say we did buy 6, what happens when we bring 6 newbies in and everyone that is injured gets fit you will end up with £30K a week players not even getting near the matchday squad - it isn't sustainable.

Small business to be done in January (if any), I would probably be looking at bringing in a top left back and converting Masuaku to a winger and then maybe bringing in 1 versatile striker for the inevitable month of Feb when Arnie and Carroll are both crocked.

Agree with Knighter.

We won't spend big in January but our priorities in my eyes are;

* Declan signed to a new long-term deal.

* New left-back. Sell one of the other two. (PvA or Zinchenko maybe?)

* Sell Carroll and bring in a CF who is similar in style to Arnautovic...so if the worst happens we don't have to flip our style of play on its head.

Sell Ogbonna, Masuaku and Hernandez and invest in (depending on more funds being available etc):-

Top drawer left back
Centre midfield cover (box to box type) loan if needed
Striker cover depending on fitness of remaining players (Arnie, Antonio, Carroll, Perez) and any emergence of youth striker....Xande Silva?

Agree with all that but think it is summer business.

No team is going to buy Carroll in January when they could pick him up for peanuts in the summer when his contract is over. Peanuts being an over-estimate.

We can trigger a 12 month extension to avoid seeing him leave for nothing... although we'd be mad to do that...!

Knighter

as this is a January thread you do realise that:

Reid and Sanchez won't be available until March at the earliest. Oxford is no nearer the first team squad than he was 2 years ago.

Fernades is on a season long loan as is Cullen who incidentally broke his shoulder last night

I agree we won't spend big, loans is my guess but at least 4 of your suggestions won't be available...

Jus' sayin'

It might be wise to break Carroll up and sell him for spare parts. Flowing locks and peak fitness Xbox thumb should fetch a few quid/

The most telling thing about that list of signings is I don't remember half of them! (not that my memory is the greatest) Joey Beauchamp and Savio are the ones that stick out for me. Beauchamp WTF and Savio wasn't his fee about £9m? That's like £30m in today's market. Somewhat dubious that one I think. Not as if the club was particularly flush at that time either. Makes comments about Felipe being overpriced a bit premature :)

Jan will be, at best, a trading window. With Husillos & Pelle, we might have a chance at a coherent plan across Jan and summer (when we will spend net 30m or so).

LB - Arfur out: he's a wingback prone to lapses. I'd settle for a LB equivalent of Zabaleta in this window, provided we sign a younger LB in the summer (and sell Cresswell).

RW - Antonio out; Almiron in. Similar up-front fees, saving in wages.

CM - Elneny (or similar) in on loan. Stop-gap who can play CM or DM.

ST - Hernandez out (loan). Wages saved fund loan for CM.

The only thing I'd disagree with you on is this -

First of all wages would probably need to be part-funded by West Ham -
Secondly , even from the substitute position Javier Hernandez scored around 8 goals last season , he's already bagged 2 - I'd keep him .

If you think Antonio would pay for Almiron you're crazy, Atlanta's president has come out and said that they'd expect at least 30M, even if that's posturing it's going to take well more than 20M and nobody is paying that for Antonio, and I would guess he'd expect and get more in wages than Antonio. Probably a moot point anyway though as he's probably going to end up at Spurs or Arsenal

Almiron plays in a mickey mouse league...his credibility will always be in doubt until he moves to a proper league, Antonio has a period of very good form under his belt in one of the few good leagues in the world.

I’m not sure we need to sign another attacking midfielder personally..

In preference i’d want:
- Energetic midfielder to compete with Obiang (preferably pushing Obiang in to a role where he can cover his current position or Rice). Someone who can get around the pitch, tackle, strong, but also decent on the ball
- Left back

It’s then a one in-one out, with the exception of potentially selling two strikers to buy one decent back up to Arnie

Ps also want Declan signed up to new long term contract
