It honestly feels like people want signings for the sake of it, if we've been talking to Celta about Gomez for a few weeks, and want to take him in the summer, what's the point in bringing in Batshuayi in now, if we had other targets in other positions we wanted but selling clubs didn't want to sell until the summer, why waste time bringing someone else in, why buy a player that we don't really want? That's how we've ended up in the position (squadwise) that we are now.

I know we need bodies but absolutely no way we should be panic buying.

No it wouldn't, it would have created even more resentment amongst the squad had he suddenly rocked up on 160 large ones a week. Zabaleta has already publicly stated how much bad blood there's been around the squad recently because of issues with this window and that would just exasperate the issue more.

Best off without him leeching on us at that wedge demand.

If it means we at the least kept Perez and Hernandez for the meantime till the summer, I really ain't all that bothered. Certainly got goals amongst them two alone. We really ain't desperate for Strikers. We'd be 2bob if we allowed them to go without any decent replacements.
