I am struggling to see what yours and S-H’s replies to my post has got to do with this transfer thread.

By all means you can disagree with me. That is allowed. But how about you both actually contribute to the thread and debate why you disagree. Instead of these lazy responses. Unless of course you both lack the intellect to do so.

Let me refer back to my initial point, which IMO is a good point. Our Director of Football’s job is to scout players across the world to find hidden gems, or players that can be signed for little to no fee. Like he did of course last season with Balbuena. Why is it a year into the club we still can’t find a single younger, cheaper midfielder in the Balbuena mould that would be less of a short term fix than adding another 30+ player like Medel?

As for me if we sign him I just know once again for the 4th window running a lot of the fans will be having the same conversation again asking why we underinvest in that position and questioning why our midfield is so poor and why are we still leaking in goals.

If we signed Medel and we went into next season with the below central midfielders, would you honestly say these midfielders are good enough to help us finish higher than last season? :P
- Noble;
- Rice;
- Snodgrass;
- Wilshere;
- Cullen;
- Sanchez;
- Medel.

The only 4 I would say is good enough to start a lot of matches is: Noble, Rice, Wilshere and Snodgrass. And 2 of them are in their early 30s and Wilshere is injury prone.

Surely the DoF's job is to find players that fit the team and the manager, regardless of age, cost (within budget), nationality etc...

If Medel is someone that the manager likes and they think fits the bill, then it's the DoF's job to ensure a deal can be done.

Or are you saying we shouldn't have signed Anderson or Haller because they were well known and expensive?

You said that you would sack the manager on the spot, if the best he can come up with is Medel..

I will discuss transfers and targets when there is something of substance worth talking about, but you come out with horse **** like that, there really isn't much else that needs saying.

Genuine question - is it a DoF’s job to scout players, or do they just “get the deals done”?

luckily Rice came on in leaps and bounds - and you're convinced that we won't miss him if he's out for any length of time ???

Wanyama, Elneny, Drinkwater.

3 good players available on loans/transfers and It's baffling we haven't enquired.

I thought the DoF job was to find players to fit a certain way the manager wants to play by identifying said players

Reckon the money side of things is still done by the welsh dwarf

Pellergrini has been pretty clear though that he doesn't like loans, so surely they'll be focusing on players they can actually sign. Those 3 will still be available for loan in 10 days time if we can't get anything else done.

Also, how do you know we haven't asked? Just because it's not been reported doesn't mean questions haven't been asked.

I'd also say that Medel is a better player than 2 of them, and less injury prone than the other.

They are an all encompassing overseer of policy regarding the playing staff.

So they will be the top tier of whatever our particular scouting network consists of, as well as having a heavy involvement in the financial specifics of each deal. They know the budget, what the manager and squad needs, the financial constraints they have to work within etc.

Well surely the owners haven’t hired Husillos to find an aging player any club could’ve thought about! That’s the sort of cr*p we was signing even before Husillos and Pellegrini arrived :P

And once again you still haven’t demonstrated you can argue the case without personal digs. So you are clearly incapable of debating why you think it’s acceptable the best our Director of Football can do is sign Gary Medel. Never mind.

Here’s hoping the Italian clubs or Marseille beat us to Medel anyway. :thup:

Nah man, that's nonsense talk. He's taking a 95% pay cut to move to Valladolid for the 'lifestyle'.

It's not like the Turkish press to pick names out of a hat and make stuff up though is it?

xoxoxo

generally i only contribute when i have something really salient to add , i dont need you to assess my intelligence , you wanted to sack the Dof on the strength of that one deal and in my opinion thats nonsense .

you can of course add me to your foes list if you find my contributions below your intelligence level

He was a little sloppy with his passing and lightweight. That goal will live long in the memory. :raver:

Best of luck to him, it was time for a change though.

From memory a few seasons ago he was our best player until he got injured and never really seemed the same player since then.

I just can't see us letting Obiang go unless we have a replacement in the pipeline. I don't see Fornals as a replacement and with Wilshere's injury record it's becoming a worry to be honest.
