I'm told Jose Fonte had an excellent season in France last year and is still very young at heart.funky chicken wrote:Ex has tweeted one of the centre backs that has been identified is a young Portuguese lad who apparently has a lot of potential. But won't reveal the name yet. Any idea who it could be?

Sam Inkersole just said it isn’t Leitefunky chicken wrote:Ex has now followed up with the following tweet:

Diogo Leite springs to mind. What about that Palhinha? Can’t he play centre half too?

Given the age that's been quoted it would be the guy at Boavista who Benfica supposedly want.

So does that mean we must always be happy with it?Longaz wrote: Well other than the 16 years between 64-80 That's what life as a West ham fan has meant unless I'm missing something.
Fans will usually aspire for their club to improve and move up through the levels and will naturally become frustrated if they feel the club has a great opportunity to build something but doesn’t put the investment in to achieve it?

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
Based on the ages of centre backs in the Primeira Liga teams this year it's likely Gonçalo Cardoso (Boavista) or possibly João Serrão (Vitória Setúbal FC).

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
The DM is Carlos Sanchez, and the ST is Chicharito, I doubt anyone better is coming in unless the budget is a lot higher than expected.jhammers wrote:I won't get excited over signing a player for the u23's. Where's the DM and back up striker for the first team?!
I will say getting someone under 21 is a big advantage given our registration crunch. Diop being under 21 last year was a major help. Bringing in a rotation player who has at least 1 year of not counting against the maximum non-domestic slots would be excellent.

Just because they're a teenager doesn't automatically mean it's a development squad signing. Rice was in our first team at 18.

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
Don't really get all the negativity I've just read through.
As I see it, we are progressively getting better and better, adding two top additions this summer makes sure that we can hit the ground running, rather than having to wait for a whole barrage of new players to bed in.
I think this is the right way to go actually.
This is also the best team that I think we've ever had, and I'm excited to get the season started (just a shame we'll probably get a pasting in the first match).
Yes, we could improve, all teams can, but we're in a better position than we've ever been as I see it. Happy days
Any bitterness about the stadium move belongs in a different forum I think, as it's a different debate. Things seem to be getting clouded by this. Yes, it really sucks to no longer own our historic stadium (BIG TIME), but this has no bearing on a debate about transfer activity imho..

Chaz
not wishing to be argumentative, I honestly think the two are intertwined in a way..
we moved to make Arsenal "look over their shoulder" (I think that was similar to what was said).
we moved to a shyte hole of a football stadium. money from a 60K stadium plus the huge increase in t.v. money from the time we moved should have meant that investment shold have been forthcoming on an ongoing basis.
it hasn't really. so all talk of transfers is linked to money we don't have, but can't understand where it is/has gone
imvho that is

United have ended their interest in Dybala. shame would have been good to see him in the PL.paulhs1 wrote:Man utd getting Dybala and Manzukic apparently.
Foxes about to spend some of the Maguire money.
Toffees still spending.
I think we're gonna see a lot of activity in the next 3 days.
Regardless of what our net spend is we need 1 or 2 more to compete. I'm happy with a £20m net spend if it means we improve the current squad/first 11 so if that means off loading 1 or both of Hernandez and Ogbonna then so be it.
really want hernandez to stay. cant see us spending money on another striker. balotelli on a free would be a decent back up to haller. or sturridge/welbeck
Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
I hope it is Cardoso. He was the best defender, maybe the best player at the U19s. He’s still only 18 and has already played half a season for Boavista’s senior team and looked their best defender.

If Haller gets injured I’m hearing that after the transfer window shuts we’ll be monitoring a free agent available on a pay-as-u-play deal. First name Andrew, surname rhymes with barrel.jhammers wrote:I won't get excited over signing a player for the u23's. Where's the DM and back up striker for the first team?!

1. 60m min net.
2. Because it's what you do if you want to run a football club.
