Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
He said: "I'm happy because we have completed the squad in the way we wanted. We have two players in each position and the best way is to have competition. We have done what we needed."
And that's all that matters. Now if the Manager has miscalculated what he does and doesnt need, that's up to him to take responsibility. Throughout the window to this point, I don't see him desperately wanting anything he didn't ask for. Maybe in an ideal world, he might wish for a little bit more (maybe not) but he's also a realist. It's certainly nowhere near the levels of a Rafa throwing all his girly toys out the pram constantly demanding for more.

I'm very pleased with the business we've done this window, although there is always more. However, there's a lot to be said for team stability as well and I think it's a mistake to try and introduce too many new players at once - evolution not revolution.
Having said that, I'd be surprised and delighted if we finish any higher than 8th

Slowest midfield in the league by a country mile. Getting on a bit as well. Cardoso is a defender so not sure why he was included there..........................Rice...........Wilshire
.......................Sanchez.........Noble
.............................................Snodgrass

Those 6 players are to cover 2 of the expected midfield 5. Anderson, Fornals and to a lesser extent Lanzini add in the pace.Irrons wrote:Slowest midfield in the league by a country mile

Wilshere and Rice are quick, you've got me on the rest. That said, what some lack in foot speed, they make up with reading the game quicker than most. Not Sanchez, obvs.Irrons wrote: ..........................Rice...........Wilshire

Another window more aimed at quality not quantity, evolution not revolution - more than happy with that approach.
If we do not get injuries like last season and the new boys settle could see a quiet January which will no doubt annoy a few. Good enough to challenge for “best of the rest” and should be capable of cup runs.

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
If all falls into place, I can see the focus in the next window being on full backs and defensive midfielders.
But unlike in years gone by, there are many areas where we have few or no deficiencies.

Exactly ... limited budget so better to buy 2/3 quality players than 6/7 that has been the practice for years at our club ...

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
If some of us think our central midfield is bad enough as it is in terms of quality and strength-in-depth what are we going to do next summer with the likelihood of more interest in Rice and with Sanchez out of contract?
If we wasn't going to bring anyone in than I would rather of kept Obiang for another season to have come off the bench as he is a good option to have.
As I have said before I am thrilled with who we have bought in. But I just find it staggering that unbelievably for the 3rd summer running we have completely underestimated our central midfield.

That’s where next years war chest will need to be spent. My hope is we keep Rice in the back of a good season.funky chicken wrote:If some of us think our central midfield is bad enough as it is in terms of quality and strength-in-depth what are we going to do next summer with the likelihood of more interest in Rice and with Sanchez out of contract?

Don't worry we have Conor Coventry and Alfie Lewis from the u23s in reserve too...funky chicken wrote:If some of us think our central midfield is bad enough as it is in terms of quality and strength-in-depth what are we going to do next summer with the likelihood of more interest in Rice and with Sanchez out of contract?
