West Ham Utd 2 Birmingham City 0 (10/02/10)
A crucial match.
Today's debacle must be left behind.
We need a win, and we need one soon. This will be a tough one, however, I believe we can get something.

Stanislas to start. We need players who are willing to get in behind a full-back. We need that physical edge to be able to carve out opportunities.

Agreed, Stanislas to start. We need Diamanti too... Haven't thought about who to put up front though. I rather like Ilan and Mido and McCarthy's chip today has gotten on my nerves.
Hopefully we can get at least 1 pt out of this one....

A 4-3-3, Sir Trev style, might work well. I mean, our results can't get much worse, can they?

Pace on the flanks, steel in the middle, and strength and movement upfront with a bench to change things where necessary.

So true. It's not the despair that kills you, it's the hope.Hugh Jargon wrote:Relax everyone...we arn't good enough,,acceptance = calm.
Re: West Ham V Birmingham City Match Thread
Mido and Stanislas have to start after their performances today, could be vital in keeping us up. Never rated Stanislas as anything more than a good prospect until today - imo he showed he's the finished article and ready to start in the Premiership. Mido gelled immediately with Cole and looked a good, hungry - and most importantly a creative - influence up front.
Ilan is too soon to tell, showed good awareness in getting the goal, but maybe still keep him as a sub. Faubert is getting better and better - plays a nice attacking game with Behrami to cover him. Would like something similar on the other side of the field but if Stanislas starts at LM (which he should imo), he should have a more defensive-minded player to cover LB, which we have in Spector.
Oh, and Collison should start in the middle whether it means dropping Noble or not,.. I see Noble as cover for Parker really, and we need more creativity in the middle which imo Collison can provide...
Cmon Gianfranco, do the right thing:
---------------------------Green------------------------------
-Faubert-------Tomkins-----Upson---------Spector-
---------------------------Parker------------------------------
-Behrami--------------Collison---------------Stanislas-
----------------------Cole-----------Mido---------------------
Bench: Kurucz, Da Costa, Ilunga, Noble, Diamanti, Ilan, McCarthy
Cmon you irons, another crucial game here where we've gotta go for the 3 points.

This is exactly what I was thinking, although I wondered about putting Gabbidon in at right back. Not a big fan of Spector. Anyone think Gabbidon would make a decent full back?[HH] wrote:Code: Select all

A must win...for us and Zola.
Junior on the right please.
I get the feeling that if G & S have the money....Zola might be out if we lose this. They will not want to lose against Brum.

I agree smuts, I think the result here will be the making or breaking of Zola for G&S. Moreso after today.
Obviously 3 points are absolutely crucial, alas I think we'll get 1. Birmingham are a solid team. Defeat would be season defining, IMO.

I'd go with that set-up too. Some interesting points about Gabbidon though. Is he actually currently fit & available? Should know that really :lol:Het-Field wrote: ---------------Green-------------

I'm sick and tired of us matching upto teams and looking like a bunch of fairies (Parker aside), who don't have a ****ing clue what they're meant to be doing. We need experienced men out there at the moment, not boys, in my opinion.
Play a three man midfield with Behrami, Kovac and Parker all working their b*llocks off for the ball.
Allow Parker to roam forward when we're in possession.
Play a three man attack with Cole and Mido using their frames up top, with Ilan or McCarthy to be waiting in the wings for any chances that crop up.
We don't have any good enough wide players in the squad. I'd rather see Collison on the bench than on the wing.
Zola needs to start playing to what strengths we have.
Sir Trev Style FTW!

Re: West Ham V Birmingham City Match Thread
I think it's going to be a real good night Wednesday. Towards the end it was really starting to gel with the new bods.
Personally, I don't think Kovac has the grit or the pace for The Premiership, but I'd be happy to be proved wrong.
Noble and Collison don't look the players they were last year. We've got to dig in now as it's getting serious. Anyone not putting it in Wednesday should be prepared to feel some heat. We have to come out of the traps like a pack of starving hunting dogs. Way too casual today, and after last Saturdays ni nil bore they've got to deliver.
