This you would think would put an end to us being overrun in midfield every game
And give our attack minded players licence to get up and support cole!
Maybe, but then you've got the issue with width.,.

I think it's time to see if Collison can support Cole because the others seem to be failing miserably

No doubt Nolan will start though....

To be fair to the OP, the T in West Ham is a bit of a misnomer. When you say the club's name... do you say West Ham,( in perfect Queen's English), West 'am. or Wess Tam? Perhaps the OP left out the T to avoid confusion. It is a bit like our p**** friends and their aversion to the letter L....Mi' waah

I am, I am. At present I am reading this intriguing little novel. Janet had brought the picnic, but John had forgotten the juice. Proper heartwrenching stuff.

True about the width bob, bentley and faubert could play wider if necessary while getting up to support the striker when we are going forward, something has to change cos it ain't working for us in midfield, for me at least one holding midfielder has to play, I would go with the two!

Exactly how I see it

I’d also send the team out with strict instructions that any balls to Cole have to be played into his feet, or into space that he can then exploit. If he has his back to goal, the highest acceptable delivery is in to his chest. Sure, if we need to hack the ball away from defence, a punt up to Cole is a better option than hoofing it out for a throw in, but balls aimed towards Cole’s head should only be a last resort, not plan A

We have 3 very good CM’s in Noble, Nolan & Collison, but so far our midfield is blatantly lacking in energy, movement, and any sort of support for Cole. As Collison is the only one has has that energy, to make up the distance between the midfield & Cole, to get up and back, he surely has to be worth a try.
I’d include Diop as well, as it would allow Nobes to use his range of passing a tad further up the pitch
Nolan would be the obvious player to make way

As you say, I’ll believe it when I see it

Let's forget about last night's experiment and go back to the normal system.

The need for someone in there to mop things up and add some bite is also as important
As supporting cole, it's becoming more obvious in every game, to me anyway that noble and Nolan
Can't play together, both too slow and crucially neither can tackle, for me Sam needs to make a decision and bench one of them or we will continue to get overrun in the middle!

---------------------------Green
O'brien----- Tomkins----- Faye----- McCartney
---------------------------Diop
-------------Collison-----------Nolan
Faubert----------------------------------Taylor
---------------------------Cole

Subs: Boffin, Reid, Noble, Bentley, Baldock

I think we need to play a holding CM. Either Bouba Diop or try O'brien there and put Demel at RB.

One thing is for sure - we need to try something different because we could easily have come out of the last four games with 0 points.

In the 2003/4 season , after 9 games we had 17 points , exactly the same as we do now , albeit we are one place higher in the league table than we were that season .

Our tenth league fixture that season was against Crystal Palace , same as it is this time around .That season we beat them to move up a place and hit the 20 point mark .That game was of course at home and we ran out 3-0 winners .

Failure to collect all 3 points then will mean we will be behind where we were after 10 games this season than we were in the season we finished 4th with 74 points , 20 points behind the side that won the title, Norwich City .

No pressure then..............

TPP - Without looking up the records wasn't Pards on gardening leave till the end of September? I ask because my memory of that season is we had lots of draws when Pards first took over. I can remember losing early at Gillingham and even Rotherham if i'm not mistaken (before Pardew joined).

Last night definitely brought back memories of that seaon!

Hockley - yes , he was on gardening leave , possibly until mid October .

So, with no full time Manager we had 20 points on the board after 10 games .

Mind you we had Wayne Quinn to call upon in those days and Gerd Mellor was banging them in .

Think Mellor scored 2 or 3 that night against Palace pinks didn't he ??

Also remember going to the Hockey Stadium a few Games later for the 1-1 ( Brian Deane ) just before i left for Thailand & seening Wayne Quinn really up close, which made my mind up to leave quicker than i might have done had i not seen how bad he is/we were..
