I think thats incorrect. Same with relegated players you have gems within a team. McCormack. Rhodes.Ings to mention just 3 would improve our squadFaubert's Boot wrote:

Charlton Athletic. Callum Harriott looks like turning into a bit of a talent. Wouldn't say no.

Redmond I'd take a risk on. Won't cost too much and has something we lack; pace. Burst pace and a decent shot, I think at his age the improvement we could get out of him would make a good long term investment.
Caulker too is worth a go. I stand by the point that if you buy young English players you very rarely lose much money. If he doesn't break ahead of Tomkins and Reid (or Reid doesn't leave) then we'll still be able to sell him for about £5-6m more than likely. The sides we aspire to be do this kind of business. I'm sure Reid will be targeted by someone soon.
I'd love for us to try and sign Ashley Cole and Micah Richards. Richards has rumoured links to Liverpool, so if that happens then I'd immediately enquire for Glen Johnson.
We really need a new full back or two, most readily on the left, a new partner for Noble to do the hard work but with more quality than Taylor. Then a wide forward, with a possibility of a standard striker too. But the wide forward is key because he can cover up top if needs be.
I think we have our Nolan replacement already, but if we sell Rav then we need to consider looking for a new Nolan too.
I don't expect all of that to be solved in one window. The place we're in as a club means we will have to shop in the bargain bin to complement the real signings we make. Loans and a couple freebies to add to two or three money signings.
I agree with petty much all of this, especially the piece about Caulker. You generally don't lose money on good young English players. That is why I like the idea of signing Wickham and Ings up front.

"championship quality" doesn't mean every player in the championship. The examples you've mentioned are standout players who could cut it at premier league level. Eagles however is championship quality, and wouldn't improve us.mumbles87 wrote:

John Terry I would hate that, I would find it hard to support that mug. I would boo him I just couldn't help myself and I do not boo players.

Re: The summer 2014 Transfer thread and wish list
I'd take all 3 on 1 year contracts at 50k a week with a 3 million bonus each for top 6 and a Cup Final.
Just edited it, 5 million was a bit heavy.

When i saw Giggs was leaving Man U I wondered if Sam would be tempted for 12 months as well - even at 97.

Gradel: I refused 4 year deal at West Ham
St Étienne’s versatile attacker Max Gradel has told our colleagues at But! about what really went on during transfer deadline day in January of this calendar year, and how he nearly signed with West Ham United, on loan.
He had the following to say:
“I went to London thinking I was about to be loaned. However, when I got there, West Ham told me they wanted me to sign a four year deal. As the club looked like they could be relegated, I preferred not to take any risks.”
“Next season? I am not asking myself any questions. I am here, I play. Am I playing these matches like they are my last here? No. I have another year to run in terms of contract. England, it is a very wonderful country. It is there where I burst onto the scene. I intend to play there again, but, when, I don’t know.”

Re: The summer 2014 Transfer thread and wish list
Cole I'd take straight away. Possibly still the best defensive left back in the league.
Terry and Lampard I have no interest in. Terry still has it, in a deep line especially, but the guy is reprehensible, whilst I detest Lampard.
Hard on playing ability alone, think I'd still take Cole first. Lampard's influence on games has waned, but I do think Sam would know how to use him to protect what hes lost, and he would probably get at least the same amount of goals as our captain. Considering the wages and short termism we could never handle all 3 (in this mystery world where they would consider us) so Cole only.

Yes to Cole, but only if we are grooming a successor.
