I'd play...

--------------------- Hart------------------------
Zabaleta -- Reid -- Ogbonna -- Cresswell
------------ Obiang ---- Kouyate------------
-------------------- Noble ---------------------
Antonio ---------------------------- Arnautovic
----------------- Hernandez --------------

Or if you want wingbacks

----------------------------- Hart -----------------------
------------- Kouyate --- Reid --- Ogbonna ----
Zabaleta -------- Noble -- Obiang ---------- Cresswell
Antonio ----------- Hernandez --------------- Arnautovic

If Carroll has to play then I'd rather see Hernandez dropped for Arnautovic

we can't have a two of hernandez and carroll playing centrally against a team like this, we'd get murdered down the flanks. i know it's not a popular opinion but i don't think antonio is good enough in crowded areas to adopt a free role in the pocket anyway. he needs fresh air to get the best out of him.

slav wants to keep carroll in the side for the defensive stability it gives us, but i'm not sure stability will be enough if it takes the pressure off their backline and allows them to push up high.

When you consider WBA only had 37% of the ball at the weekend it all becomes a bit irrelevant. Would you prefer more of the ball and not win, or less of the ball but win?

Incidentally we also gave Spurs 67% of the ball in the home game last season but won 1-0 and had more shots than them. The heat map from that game showed the vast majority of their possession was in the middle third and in particular in the centre circle. We let them have it there as there was no danger.

----------------Hart---------------------
------Fonte-Reid-Ogbanna---------
Zaba-Kouyate-Obiang-Masuaku
-Antonio-Hernandez-Arnautovic-

Carroll for Fonte if we need goals in the second half - going 4-4-2.

Is this a wind-up?

They owe us one for celebrating winning a game of football? There was about 10 of them left in the ground at 80 minutes.

No idea how we will lineup but I would like to see Kouyate moved to CB and Noble in midfield. Arnautovic Chica and Antonio as the front 3.

100% Masuaku & Antonio to stifle their flanks, play a higher line since Kane is sloooow. Cheik to get physical with Alli, possible Red for frustration. 3-2 ammertime goals (Arnie/Chico/Antonio)

Just listened to the post-match press conference here on KUMB and if that is anything to go by, Noble will start.

Slaven also said that Arnie likes to "molest the opposition" - let's hope he don't. That's a red card right there, at least!

If Bilic starts Noble on Saturday he clearly has no balls!!

Grow a pair Slav!

Keep Obiang and Kouyate in there and bench Noble! Reid Captain!

Not a dig but I'm fairly sure they'd want to win this one regardless of the result last time out.

Anyway, I think this has score draw written all over it. 2-2.

Are you talking about the 1-0 last season?

We haven't gone on about it anymore than previous victories, and they would do exactly the same! Just like they did the last time they beat us which was the 4-1 at their gaff 2 years ago - and even funnier, most of them wouldn't shut up about the DRAW at their place last year.

Spurs fans always really want to win this one because despite their nonsense they DO care about this fixture just as much as us!

Noble needs to be on the bench for this one. We are so more direct without him. Too direct if Carroll plays.

We really need to get at them and have Cm's that will do the right things in their half. Not passing backwards and sideways.

This is a game when i can see the logic in three CBs but only if masuaku plays
My preferred selection would be thus:

Adrian (i realise that won't happen)

Fonte, Kouyate, Reid (Kouyate pushing on when we have the ball)

Zabaleta and Masuaku (Cresswell is a pony wing back)

Obiang and Noble (with Obiang nominally tasked with playing a little more conservatively and Noble 'freer')

Antonio, Hernandez, Sakho

tbf either Arnie or Ayew could slot in for sakho

I will be disappointed if Carroll plays, but i expect he will

not a clue what to expect from this one. I don't think we played well in either the Huddersfield or WBA game, we just played opponents who were way worse on the day, so a spanking from spurs wouldn't surprise me, but then again the last few games against spurs the team have upped their game and played fairly well, hopefully that happens again on Saturday.

I'd start Sakho + Chiq but it won't happen and we'll see Carrol up top with chiq on the wing again :thdn:

ogbonna is better at bringing the ball out than kouyate, has a better pass on him too. his header set the tone for last night and if it had been carroll people would be talking about what an unstoppable bulldozer header it was.

I think Ogbonna is a better CB than Kouyate

The only reason i woud pick Kouyate there is that a 5 at the back can quickly transittion to a 4 at the back during the game if needs be. simply push Kouyate on a bit, reign the wing backs back a bit and heh presto

He is also left footed which is a real advantage with the way we want to play three at the back.

Fonte,, Reid and Ogbonna would be my choice of three at the back. Save Kouyate's drive and physical presence for midfield where we are short.

Spurs are a physical side so we need to match that.
