I don’t even get why it’s important whether the bid for Joe Allen was true or not ....

If a bid was made why was it made on deadline day... this would of been a club record transfer... !!

If there was an offer then why couldn’t we get Dedoncker for £5 m less and why were we still in discussions for him on deadline day if we had the money or decided to go for Joe Allen...

Nothing they say makes sense if they are competently running the club or following a competent transfer strategy based on getting the players we need or have identified prior to any window starting... a club record bid makes no sense at all for a club like us with our resources (or lack of them) on deadline day... especially when other targets have been rejected for a lot less money...

I won't believe a word of it until the Sulli-clan provide a hastily-crayoned email to prove that they've been honourable and honest all along

There were reports linking Dedoncker to Man Utd, but at £27 million

Direct quote from the Anderlecht manager in that article:

"These are matters that are discussed. A transfer for €25-€30m is possible, but then we also need a replacement right away."

So they wanted about £22m, our offer was £4.4m up front and £8.8m by the end of the season

I'm no expert on these things, but I thought that the 'usual' method of transfers is that a lump sum is paid up front and then the rest is staged over a period of months / years?

It depends on what the selling club and buying club agree to.

It seems obvious that as a club we offer lower installments spread over longer periods of time than most clubs are willing to accept.

Pull the other one Sullivan, you lying b*stard. If you bid that, why is it this is the first we have heard of it and why leave that to the final day of the window and then insult Anderlecht with a paltry and derisory £4.4m offer for Dendoncker ?

You have been rumbled and now you are squirming

How much of a yearly payment would that be then? £18m over how many years ??

I think the key word is LUMP sum up front, Mr Sullivan prefers SMALL sum

Why would a club accept that when they could probably get 4 times that up front , therein lies the Art of the Deal in Sullyworld

It's not really bidding that amount.

It would be, say, £5million up front with the rest to follow every year in installments. Then we'd sell him within 18 months and use that amount to pay off the amount owed.

For the selling club it might end up being £25million but to us it's like an expensive loan fee.

Someone who knew that the bid wouldn't be accepted but needed to continue with the charade of "working 24/7 to sign players".

All we need now, is for Stoke to come out and deny that West Ham ever bid £25m for him.

Some of their supporters get it

Probably a load of b*llocks, trying to placate fans, they can't realistically think Stoke would sell him to them. If they did make a bid just for affect

At least we now know that there is at least an extra £25m on top of the usual budget available in the summer.
