I've no idea what to expect, seeing as how we have virtually a new team out. First day matches are a strange affair. When Villa got relegated a few seasons back they won their first two games, then didn't win again for about 3 months. (don't quote me EXACTLY on that). When we topped the old 2nd division in 1980/81 season we lost our first game at home to Luton. I think it was 1-2. I haven't looked this up, so I may well be confusing this with another season, but my point is the first game is often a poor indicator of how the season will go. Although last season it was depressingly a good indicator!

have looked up 80/81 season. It was indeed Luton 1-2 and we only got 2 points from the first 3 games!

Heart says 0-5.
Head says 0-5.
Arnie hat-trick, 1 for Yarmolenko, and 1 for Ogbonna. 2 red cards for Liverpool and a yellow for Klopp.

MOTD to put us on second last with a full 25 seconds of footage, and 45 seconds of Murphy insisting none of the bookings were valid.

Not sure who will be available for the bin dippers. Are players still resting for them??

I would like to think that MP would be quite defensive for this one.

A draw would be a good result.

This has got to be the most anticipated game for us for quite a few years.

A new look squad, new tactics, new infrastructure..

Exciting time, we hope.

No predictions, I judt want to see a good game.

We'll score a lot this year. We'll also let in a lot.

I think we'll be outgunned by one goal in a high scoring game, but leave full of optimism.

Benefit we have is Klopp wont have a clue who will line up for us and how we line up. We will know exactly how they will line up so straight off an advantage.

First game of the season always brings out a few shocks - Swansea beat Man U first game - all sorts if things happen due to fitness issues and teams underestimating others.

I hope we go there to attack because their defence and midfield is not much better than ours ... 4 - 2 to the bin dippers though I reckon.

The Liverpool game may have come a little early for this new-look West Ham side but give Pellegrini a few weeks and we may find we're capable of beating anyone .

Arguably the best time to face Liverpool - you generally find one of the top 6 drop a clanger on the opening week (Chelsea last year).

Sounds a cliche but as long as we see progress I can cope with 3-1 against arguable the best attack in the league.

Heart says 0-1 with an Arnie scissor kick at the Kop end.

I would swap a loss at home to Cardiff for a win against the Mickeys at Anfield. I expected a good performance but as much as I would like it, I do not expect us to win.

Only chance we have here is that we will know how they will play, whilst they won’t have a scoot how we will set up

We’ll still get spankec though, I’m going for 4-0

Liverpool are a couple of seasons years ahead of us in terms of team building. Their team knows each other well and has a manager with a system they all know. Our team is still finding it's feet and we will still be short a few bits and bobs. If we were two seasons into Pelle boys reign I would expect us to give them a game but this is too early I feel.
