Re: Arsenal v West Ham Utd: match thread (25/8)
If we don't play a 3 mate, we'll get overrun (again) in midfield with two up top....
4-4-2 (or 4-2-2-2) isn't going to work against 5 now...
still if they play Mkitarian (sp?) AND Ozil, I'll be licking my chops !!!!

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Utd: match thread (25/8)
I'm not sure...having three at the back and then a midfield of 5, with Fred, Sanchez, Obiang, Wilshere and Mass all behind the ball should work.
We then have two up front to harass their defenders and to hold the ball up for the marauding Fred and Mass, with Wilshere breaking and Obiang just behind...Sanchez can then fall back to.give a four at the back in case we lose the ball to give us some shape until the full backs get back...
Problem with having one up front is the lack of support...I just think it's best to have two building an understanding and giving them no respite...And I think Palmers likes two.up front as well..?

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Utd: match thread (25/8)
I agree we should go to three at the back. Arthur, Cress and Freddie are all more suited going forward than defending so more protection frees them up. I have said previously that I would to see Zab play on the right side of a back 3 (simular to how Cress was used on the left side last season). Then Rice and Oggy or Balbuena.

4-1 or 4-0 to Arsenal.
You could put the World XI in our team and we'd still bend over in this one. Arsenal have lost their first two games against two of the top sides, they'll take it all out on us and obliterate us with their attacking players.

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Utd: match thread (25/8)
............................Adrian
..............Zabaleta Balbuena Diop
Fredericks Wilshere Obiang Noble Cresswell
..................Hernandez Arnautovic
Anderson needs breaking in more gently from the bench as he just doesn't look up to speed yet and I don't want to see his confidence completely shot so soon since arriving on massive money continuing as he has done. And no, I've not written him off.
6 goals in just 2 games, the defence needs drastic attention by way of personnel and formation. Einstein was right about the definition of madness and we'd be mad to leave it as it is.
If he must insist on a back four, then it would be;
..........................Adrian
Fredericks Balbuena Diop Cresswell
..........Wilshere Obiang Noble
...Yarmolenko ............. Arnautovic
.....................Hernandez
Shouldn't go anywhere near 442.

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Utd: match thread (25/8)
This game will no doubt see another meltdown as we get hit for 5 or 6 without reply.
They were unlucky against Chelsea so you know they are due some and along comes west ham to oblige !
fabianski
zab rice ogbonna cresswell
sanchez wilshere
yarmolenko anderson masuaka
arnie
This will become a 451 for most of the game
subs adrian fredericks balbuena obiang noble hernandez perez
we will get stuffed. onto the next must win home game , wolves.

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Utd: match thread (25/8)
it has the potential to be a mental match. 2 teams with no defense and a slow transition into a new manager. would be nice to see perez in this as well.

yarmolenko arnie anderson
it's a good time to play them and can see it ended up 2-2 with defensive errors on both sides.

I'd take 2-2 all day long but can only see one result here and it will leave us with nil points.

I've changed my mind, we will win this.

Unfortunately the 'West Ham way' for many years now has been to hoist the white flag and rollover and lay down.rottiel wrote:I've changed my mind, we will win this.

I'm hoping Pellers will change all that. But it's not gonna happen soon. And certainly not in time for this game.

The manager thinks we “are improving” after Bournemouth - this is the perfect game to find out!
I’m not sure Wilshire winding up his ex-teammates by saying it is a good time to play them is wise though...

Will do very well to get a point out of this.
If we get an early goal we have a chance . . .

Not much of a fight though! I imagine most clubs see something like that once a month.DDHammer wrote:Arnie red card incoming.

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Utd: match thread (25/8)
I'm fairly confident of a result. 2-2 after being 2-1 up feel to it.
Both managers are scratching around for a result and what's the best way for them to play and can't see them running away with a result.

For those on an away day...
Where are we meeting before the match for a few pints?
The Drayton Park?

Give it a proper go West Ham - whether it's compact and counter attacking or high tempo, front foot pressing - just give it a proper, sensible go.
