4-3-3, pack the midfield. We are incapable of keeping the goals against column below 2 unless we play 3 holding midfielders.
Fabianski
Zabaleta Balbuena Diop Cresswell
Obiang Rice Snodgrass
Diangana Arnautovic Anderson
Subs: Adrian, Ogbonna, Fredericks, Masuaku, Antonio, Perez & Hernandez

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread (03/11)
In the interest of the atmosphere I’ve selected a starting XI of players that haven’t been slagged off on this forum this week.
Fabianski
Johnson Diop Balbuena Neufville
Rice Makasi
Diangana Powell Holland
Arnautovic
A bit harsh on Snodgrass and Zabaleta who have only attracted a little bit of dislike from us all. Everyone else is lazy, bog standard, past it, average, waste of money, useless etc.
If you go back towards the beginning of the season Fabianski, Diop and Balbuena would all be out as well!

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread (03/11)
tbf we don't have to win
a win would be great and welcome, that is for sure, but a decent performance with a continuation of our very promising attacking football is equally important IMHO
get the ball down, play some decent football, go balls and all to try and win the game
anything else is a bonus
we are no where near being in 'must-win' territory

We might be near 'must win' territory for the next game if we don't beat Burnley.Crouchend_Hammer wrote:tbf we don't have to win

We are playing a very poor Burnley side at home Crouchie... point taken re the commitment and style, but to be fair mate, we do have to win these types of games.

But, as I said, it is not a 'must win' IMHO, by a long shot

Don't get me wrong, it will be a bad result if we don't win, and I am sure the knives will sharpensutts07 wrote:We are playing a very poor Burnley side at home Crouchie... point taken re the commitment and style, but to be fair mate, we do have to win these types of games.

Err..only if we manage to score. Otherwise that's what I believe is called a 0-0 draw.szola wrote:All we need to do, is to stop them from scoring
Then we'll have three points in the bag

Crouchy
it's a "must win" in terms of self belief and self confidence.
if your boss at work keeps telling you to do this and do that and eventually you'll be successful and you ain't a modicum of anxiety creeps maybe not consciously but it's there. you begin to doubt the system and what your boss tells you to do.
human nature. success breeds success. winning can become a habit. but then again so can losing.

The team picks itself for me based on the Spurs game.
Zaba in for fredericks, Balboa for oggy, Fab for Adrian and Arnie for Hernandez, I'd bench Antonio too if we can but I feel we are running out of players at this rate.
If we lose this, 10th is out of the window and we will be in a relegation battle all season.

Unfortunately there has been a 'losers' habit at West Ham for a long, long time.

Team news....
Pellers from the Official Site.
"Jack Wilshere and Andy Carroll will be working with the squad fully during the international break and should be available in the first game after the break.
"We have four other players with long-term injuries - Reid, Lanzini, Sanchez and Yarmolenko - and they will not be able to play for a few months more, at least.
"Aaron Cresswell recovered from a small injury that caused him to miss the last game, but we don't have any other new injuries."

Winston Reid....so much for 3 months out max after his op.
Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread (03/11)
For me this is a must win game. This is the start of the period of games where we have a very decent looking fixture list but time after time in previous seasons we always struggle or don't turn up and end up losing.
If we want a decent season we have to start this period off with a win and keep that momentum going. Given Burnleys form and us being West Ham I go in expecting a loss as it would be so typical but I really hope I am proven wrong.

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread (03/11)
Think the team pretty much picks itself due to availability and current form...
---------------- Fabianski ----------------
Zabaleta Balbuena Diop Cresswell
------------ Rice Ogbonna -------------
Diagana -- Snodgrass -- Anderson
--------------- Arnautovic ---------------
Adrian, Fredericks, Ogbonna, Masuaku, Antonio, Perez, Hernandez
That is more than enough to beat a very poor Burnley side as long as we get at them early on and take our chances. They will try to come and make it difficult for us by being well drilled, but if we get an early breakthrough, I can see us getting a few.
3-0, a reverse of last season, back to winning ways and the start of two great months...!

Not sure if this is anywhere else - but tomorrow no district line between South Kensington & East Ham - rail replacement buses, also no H&C or Circle line either.
Also TFL trains no service between Liverpool Street and Shenfield. Replacement buses operate between Stratford and Romford.
Going to be a fun journey there tomorrow

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread (03/11)
just a question...
a battling 1-0 and us not playing/being allowed by the opposition to play well, or a really pretty possession game and us caught napping on the counter and losing 1-0 ?
just playing Devil's Advocate here..
