He doesn't have another person of his quality but hardly any clubs do.Puff Daddy wrote:He has no competition for his place which should be a worry
Adrian is a Premier League level goalkeeper, so is perfectly good backup.

Re: Lukasz Fabianski signs
Hopefully Fabianski will be able to keep this standard up for as long as possible. But being 34 you never know.Puff Daddy wrote:He has no competition for his place which should be a worry
We absolutely do need to find a young up and coming goalkeeper to replace him in the long run. As Trott and Anang the u23 goalkeepers are not good enough IMO.
Stoke had a clever blueprint when they were in the Prem, having a younger Keeper waiting in the wings to go on and replace the current number one. First it was Sorensen and Begovic. Then it was Begovic and Butland.
I wouldn't keep Adrian beyond the summer. He is a good professional and it shouldn't be forgotten about how much he has helped newer players settle in through him be able to speak Spanish. But he is notgood enough anymore. Certainly not for the level we should be aspiring to be. I.e. Top 8.
Yes Adrian is a back-up keeper. But I always judge a good back-up keeper on how much I trust them to come in and do a job. Put it this way. If Fabianski god forbid picked up a pretty bad injury and was ruled out for a few months, would you trust Adrian to come in and do an adequate job for a big chunk of the season? I most certainly wouldn't.
Thank Adrian for everything he has done and allow him to leave the club in the summer. Hopefully Husillos and Pellers can find a Keeper around 23-28 years old that can wait in the wings and eventually replace Fabianski.

Re: Lukasz Fabianski signs
Have you seen much of Trott or Anang?
Not having a go just curious.
Goalkeepers are a tough one to judge, most don't start showing their full potential until 22/23 minimum.
Theres exceptions like Donnarumma and De Gea, but it must be very difficult to judge teenage keepers.

Re: Lukasz Fabianski signs
It is something of a misnomer clubs don't have adequate GK cover. Admitedly, there a few who do not, but most do. It is also not true, second string goalkeepers are frustrated at a lack of playing time, the reality is that they are more than happy at reporting for a few hours training each day, returning to their mansions, taking their fat earnings and then sit on the bench for as long as it takes before they get their chance.Lil Joe 17 wrote:

Re: Lukasz Fabianski signs
I’m one of Adrian’s more vocal critics on here. I don’t see how we can expect to have a better GK sit on our bench and play 5 cup matches per season. Who are we going to sign on sensible [reserve] wages?funky chicken wrote:

Next season he should just have FAB printed on his shirt.
That save he made with his face on Friday night. Proper out of the Rob Green catalog of saves.

Outstanding again tonight - commands the area so well
He made a superb save low down in the second half where Fredericks assisted in clearing from the line. Brilliant defensive action all round

How short the memories are. Fabianskis currently in the form of his life but Adrian isn't some dogshit Keeper who would significantly make us weaker when given a proper run. However, Fabianski more than deserves to keep his first team place, he's been outstanding most of the season.
I prefer to look at it, that we are currently fortunate to have 2 genuine quality Keepers on our books.

Re: Lukasz Fabianski signs
I really thought we’d made a mistake when we signed him as I couldn’t see him as an upgrade on Adrian, but not for the first time was proved totally wrong.Coops wrote:Best keeper we have had in many years. Easily as good as Green IMO.
He is the best signing we made in the summer.
Best keeper we’ve had since big Phil imo.

Re: Lukasz Fabianski signs
Better all around game than Green in my opinion, although I think Green was slightly better at reaction saves.
So refreshing having a keeper that inspires so much confidence between the sticks.
Best keeper outside of Liverpool and City's.

Re: Lukasz Fabianski signs
Our most consistent player this season, and probably the most consistent keeper in the league. Absolute quality and I feel so confident with him in goal. The bloke is pure class.

Re: Lukasz Fabianski signs
Anderson needs to score a couple of hat-tricks, or perhaps one during our first visit to WHL, to even come close to truly challenging this bloke for Signing of the Season.
