Cardiff City 2-0 West Ham Utd (09/03/19)

Post by Up the Junction »

Good chance to get WHUFC's away form back on track?

29 games gone, I don't think Cardiff are quite in 'Sheff Utd 0-3' territory yet.

More like a cheeky 'Blackburn 2-1' perhaps?

Going to this game, really looking forward to it especially with the way we've been playing some lovely stuff lately. Was there the last time we played them, a brilliant atmosphere that day in the away end made all the more special with the win. Can see more of the same and hopefully another 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Anderson and Hernandez.
Going up there early for this one. To all fellow Hammers going to the game, expect the pubs to be rammed in the city centre because of the rugby, even though Wales are away.

We’ve hardly got out of second gear vs Fulham and Newcastle and won comfortably.

Turn up vs these and stick our chances away and it’s an easy win, especially with Bamba stretchered off yesterday and seemingly out of the game now.

1-4 with Arnie back amongst the goals.

Neil Warnock seems like a nice guy off the pitch and outside the stadium. I don't mind him.

Do not care for Cardiff fans though.

We should do the business here but knowing West Ham it won't be easy. I predict a squeaky bum 2-1 win with loads of missed chances and hanging on for dear life for the final whistle. But that will suffice.

These boys are on a terrible run of form. Got thumped 1-5 and 0-3 at home to Watford and Everton. Play like we did against Newcastle and we'll be all over these. Cannot be complacent though, the next two games are massive for us if we're to get European football this season.

I would love to see us help to send Cardiff down. Colin's remarks after the last time we beat them were hilarious, I would like a second helping of that. Expect the great pundit to forecast a loss for us and we will be well set up. If Arnie wants to get a few goals, this is the team to start on. :crest:

With a cup game included, we have beaten Cardiff seven times straight and, without tempting fate, I would suggest that we are comparatively stronger than them in every department.

As such, we shouldn't be surprised to win this.

4 of 5 of our basic defensive positions are nailed on starters (if Balbuena is fairly required to spend some time on the bench). Hopefully Masuaku will be in the same form as yesterday.

Rice has been printed on the team-sheet for months now, but Pellegrini can watch the competition for places, in training, this week and make his selection from that.

Same largely goes for the striking option(s).

I would select

Fab
Fredericks
Diop
Ogbonna
Masuaku
Rice
Noble
Lanzini
Anderson
Hernandez
Antonio

Even if it is only prize money to play for, we should approach each match we have remaining with the view that we can secure at the least a point from it.

If we want to keep alive our chances of finishing 7th we quite simply have to win this game and if we could improve our goal difference that would also be a big help. I’d go:

——————Fabianski
Fredricks—Diop—Ogbonna—Creswell (does anyone know what his injury was?)
—————-Rice——-Snodgrass
Antonio———-Lanzini———Anderson
———-——-Hernandez

Bench: Adrien, Masuaku, Noble, Nasri, Perez and Arnoutovic

Quite a difficult decision who to pick, Hernandez deserves to keep his place over the stroppy one. I’d give Noble a rest as I think Antonio should start based on his recent performances. Whilst despite two relatively easy wins against Fulham and Newcastle we’ve only managed to score one goal from open play which is something that will need to change against Cardiff. I’ve picked Snodgrass over Noble in case we are reliant on set peices.

I dont think we have done anything away from home since the Saints away for 45 mins.
A good start at Palace was overshadowed by a very poor second half.

I dont get the optimism for this game.

Tommy, we are not because its the last thing the board wants.

You better start getting used to it I am afraid.

Has Colin ever gone through a season and not been relegated from the Prem? I don’t trust him. It’s hard to trust someone who doesn’t have any eyebrows.

5-0 to West Ham.

We haven't won a league game by more than 3 goals, since we got promoted. Our away form has varied between 'below average' to 'criminally awful' since the Southpton game.

If we get a draw it'll be an above par result.

I'd bring in Arnautovic and Anotnio for this one and give Anderson a rest.

-----------------------Fabianski
Fredericks--------Diop------Ogbonna-----Cresswell
-----------------------Noble----Rice
Antonio---------------Lanzini-----------Snodgrass
-------------------------Arnautovic
