Hi Richard, time for me to come clean .... one of my best mates is the nephew of Trevor Hemmings and I have followed all of the Hemmings horses for a few years now. Obviously with betting rules being what they are Trevor is as straight and honest as they come and has NEVER told my mate that one of his horses WILL win. In 2015 I convinced myself that Many Clouds would go close and backed him TWICE @ 33/1 !!! The day he died we were inconsolable, particularly after the way he had fought back beat Thistlecrack. I thought Vintage Clouds had suffered the same fate today but it appears he has thankfully survived.

Thanks again for organising this fantastic competition

Was so tempted to do an e/w bet on Magic Of Light who finished 2nd. Would have been a nice return even though I don't put big money on my bets. Superb race though, watched it in my local boozer, full house and a great atmosphere. Picked 5 horses because Skybet were paying 5 places, thought I'd try and cover my bets. Could only manage 7th and 15th though out of the two that finished. I don't normally visit the Sports Bar forum on here much but will be visiting more regular. Thanks r99c, look forward to the next competition.

What a horse Tiger Roll is. Like others after Cheltenham I thought he had a great shout of emulating Red Rum with back to back Nationals, but there is always the worry that anything can happen at Aintree. Although there were a couple of fences where his nose rubbed the turf on landing, in fairness once they set out on the second lap Tiger Roll was in cruise control and Davy Russell steered him home superbly. He has improved considerably since last year, could he return next year and do something even the mighty Rummy never managed, three on the spin? Tall order but if he carries on improving he has a great chance.
On a personal note I saved my bacon today with a score at 5/1 and covered my losses for the week and ended up in profit after a couple of awful days punting.

Apparently Gordon Elliott said in an interview earlier that Tiger Roll will be retired after the cross country race at Cheltenham next year. Didnt see the interview myself.

Wouldn’t take that comment too seriously as they said Apples Jade wouldn’t go to the Champion Hurdle before changing their mind a day later.

What a legend.

Congratulations to Balhamite

He was the model of consistency with a very strong first day and managed to bag lots of places throughout, holding off the challenge of patricklambe who had 2 more winners, but struggled to find those places in the other races. A couple of late charges were made, but it wasn't quite enough.

Thanks all for taking part :scarfer:

And for one final time, three cheers for Tiger Roll :D

Thanks for the comp. Goes to show form is temporary, lack of class is permanent, with my last day reverting to type.

Cheers

After his great showing at the Cheltenham meeting in March I too backed Many Clouds at 33/1 - I was delirious as he crossed the finishing line at Aintree , a week later I backed Wayward Prince also at 33/1 in the Scottish Grand National - the look on the lad's face at the Bookies in Inverness when I went to pick up my winnings was something to behold , a bit like that Bookie in Still Game when Winston picks up his . :)

Here's a tribute to Many Clouds , what a supreme racer he was -
