Re: Manuel Pellegrini West Ham United’s 17th manager
I love his style of play and the attacking mentality. He is a good fit for us IMO. I would rather us finish 10th attacking than finish 7th by sticking 10 behind the ball and hoofing it up.
What we need now is more investment from the owners so we can push on.

next season we must aim for Europa league qualification via the league and a good cup run.
pelle can do this I think IF backed and I think he will be as we will also shift a lot of players and get 40m in to add to the dildo money

Bar the freak Bilic season (where considering the shambles of the top 6 we really should have done better.) This is easily our best season, and with nice football to boot compared to the dark days of Allardyce.

Lost count of many times this has been said, but the club don't want it do they ? Any cup is an irrelevance and not worth bothering with, just in case it gets in the way of the holy grail of Premiership survival.hammerman11 wrote:next season we must aim for Europa league qualification via the league and a good cup run.

Basically 3 wins less than the Payet season, but the perceived “success” of each season is far wider than that.davids cross wrote:And so, we complete out seventh successive season back in the Premier League.

B+
We were the second biggest season-on-season improvers (behind Liverpool).
It was closer to an £85m outlay in the summer fwiw, despite the £100m line becoming a thing. Considering where we were at the time last season finished - a squad that already barely scraped safety was consequently further shorn of João Mario and Lanzini - then that’s value for money.

B- for me. Yes we did improve in mid season and late on, but let's not lose sight of the fact we lost all of our first 4 matches and there was also that mid winter slump, culminating in an embarrassing 4th round FA cup defeat at the hands of the bottom team in League 1 at that time. I am not pinning this all on Pellers, the players have to take responsibility too. In addition to this, there were some languid performances, both home and away and some other sluggish displays best forgotten. Next season, I hope to see some of this eradicated and more overall effort. I think we should be aiming for a minimum of 12 home wins and there is no reason we cannot achieve that and 7 or 8 on the road. This season we won 9 home and 6 away

Very good points. I think where he has excelled this year is the development and improvement of 'players' i.e.Aceface wrote:B+

Rice, Antonio, Balbuena, Noble, Masuaku, Fredicks, Diangana, Snodgrass etc. The 'team' is his next big challenge, but the aforementioned improvements must be applauded.

Re: Manuel Pellegrini West Ham United’s 17th manager
we did ok in the end and a reasonable season with the usual lows ala Wimbledon, Cardiff, wolves etc away.
next season is the big one for us all. board need to back him in the summer and I think they will but we wont have a net spend of more than 50m. There are savings to be had by releasing players such as nasri and carroll and selling some for funds.
I just hope he gets a new LB CB DM CF x 2 AND ALL YOUNG PLAYERS NO OVER 30S

No worries. Easy mistake to make.Ironing Board wrote: There was me thinking it was Wolves!
Because it you're doing it by that measure then we were also behind Cardiff and Fulham, who also improved their PL totals by more than our 10 points.

C+
or
7.5/10
Several opportunities to claim 7th spot. Losing the opening 4 games and the cup exit to Wimbledon were disappointing.
On the flip, December was great. Strong showing against some of the big boys including "that win" in N17.
We'll all agree that there is some room for improvement. Get rid of some dead wood in the summer and reinforce an already promising squad and 7th (and maybe more) is achievable.

Re: Manuel Pellegrini West Ham United’s 17th manager
Re-established the team into the second tier of the league (7th - 12th spot)
Came within touching distance of a positive goal difference
First team to beat Tottenham at their new stadium
Beat Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham. Didn't lose to Chelsea or Liverpool at home
One youngster turned into a nailed on starter
One youngster turned into a good squad player
Two youngster given their first minutes in the league
Turned two difficult periods (four away games at the start of the season, due to LS and the squad meltdown after Arnautovic wanted to go to China)
The players brough in lifted the team's performance and can be built further
A good season

Re: Manuel Pellegrini West Ham United’s 17th manager
C+/B- for me
Definite improvement: excellent summer signings; some genuinely brilliant performances; playing attractive football; better squad harmony; emergency of RIce and other youngsters has been fantastic; return to form of players like Antonio.
However, we're still horribly inconsistent and ultimately ended up competing for nothing too early in the season. Had a great opportunity in the FA Cup and totally blew it, and messed up the race for 7th place in March with some terrible performances.
Very much looking forward to next season but important we kick on and build on from this year.

Re: Manuel Pellegrini West Ham United’s 17th manager
I think it's a catch 22 - we don't qualify for Europe we'll find it harder to hang on to our best players and kick on. We'll be in an endless cycle of doom.Nick Sneddon wrote:

Also, we have a big squad. I don't see why we couldn't compete in the Europa. Other teams have managed it. It has to be the aim, whether we can do it or not.
