Oddly enough I've been in both Madrid and Porto in the last six weeks. Gracias occasionally got acknowledged in Madrid. Not once did anyone acknowledge me when I said obligado in Portugal. I gave up in the end and just assumed I'd been told the wrong word.badabing wrote:On the subject of holidays, the amount of people who can`t be bothered to use please and thank you in the native language. We (British) are brought up to use Please and Thank You.
The Spanish are not. They even refer to the British where my Mum lives, as "Los Por Favores".
No offence is meant, just different lifestyles.

Don't forget to raise the volume of your voice, as well; almost as if you're shouting at them.S-H wrote:Pathetic comment.
Don't you know they prefer it if you speak at them in English, using a poor foreign accent.
They really appreciate it.

The new film that's out, Yesterday'.
It's a fantastic premise. You're suddenly living in a world where The Beatles never existed but you are the only person in the world that remembers that they did. So you are able to claim their songs & adulation, as your own.
Now, if the tv series, 'Goodnight Sweetheart', had never existed, you might have been on to a truly original, winner.
To copy an idea (ok, very slightly different circumstances) so unashamedly is, imo, utter bollox.
To then cast Himesh Patel, the most wooden actor to have ever appeared in 'Eastenders' (& THAT'S f*cking saying something) as the lead, well, it seems a little unwise.
I could be doing young Himesh, a great disservice & he might actually be brilliant in it.
However, I won't be interested in watching what will undoubtedly be, one of the most toe-curlingly, corniest films of the year.

Jess Glynne
Has a decent voice but makes some of the most bland, tepid ***** i have ever had the pleasure of listening to 15 times a day on the radio , then annoyingly on the Jet 2 adverts
Don't you worry Jess, over exposure is the thing nowadays. You just carry on putting any number of phrases into any beat, add your vocal aerobics and away you go.
Paddy McGuiness
Famous for being northern. Otherwise i'm lost completely as to what the "thing" is with this bloke. Not exactly a rapier wit, cant see a specific talent, and he's about as funny as bollock rot

Re: Little things that irritate you
The price of band merch at gigs. My missus went to see Fleetwood Mac at Wembley and paid £30 for a t-shirt. I happen to know the company that does a lot of of the big band's t-shirts as my band had some shirts done a while back. It cost just over a fiver per shirt. So these skanking c**** are making £25 on each shirt they sell.
I know the adage is well just don't buy them, but my missus wanted a shirt from the actual gig. There weren't any scousers flogging the knock-off shirts outside either.

Yep, the Italians rarely say please, but will say you're welcome a lot more than we ever would.Rocketron wrote: The problem is ours, not theirs.

I think the difference is a little bigger than that.Samba wrote:The new film that's out, Yesterday'.

Gary Sparrow passing off famous songs as his own was more of a running joke in Goodnight Sweetheart than the central premise. He also did so unashamedly and without remorse as it benefitted himself personally (on an aside, Gary Sparrow is possibly the most morally bankrupt sitcom protagonist ever, but that's a whole other debate.)
The premise in Yesterday is that Patel's character has a moral quandary over wanting the world to have the music of The Beatles but feeling guilt that he receives such undeserved adulation as a result. As it's a Richard Curtis film it's no doubt going to be pretty corny as you say, but I'm interested to see it nonetheless.

Of course we all insisted that the ****er compensate us for his **** linguistic skills by reducing our fair, the lazy selfish prick.
If you've got a bit of spare polish handy , you could do with sticking some on your own linguistic skills .
Sorry , couldn't help myself .

Radio stations that play the same, small selection of songs on repeat. Even artists with huge back catalogues, they play the same two or three songs.
