Re: good old days..
Happy Happy days Steve
I remember one evening close to Guy Fawkes night myself and my sister ( we must have only been about 9 or 10 ) were collecting a penny for the guy at the end of our street, ( Kingsland Road about 4 mins walk ) and pickings were slim that night. I suddenly got a brainwave, I heard the crowd at the Boleyn cheering a goal and thought lets go to the ground and try our luck there. We arrived just on halftime and the crowds were all at the back balcony of the upstairs section you can see it in your picture. I hollered up "a penny for the guy please"
It flipping RAINED coins.
We filled our oxo tin to the brim and our pockets and even put some in the guys pockets!
West Ham fans made it the best Guy Fawkes we ever had

Re: good old days..
i had a meeting on barking road yesterday afternoon
it was awful walking down green st from the station
kept looking to the left and there was something else dominating the skyline
i felt a bit sick

Lovely story, ageing. I wonder what you'd make of the area now?

I see the Munchbunch? little hole in the wall takeaway, just into Priory Road on the right, is still doing a roaring trade. About the only thing that hasn't appeared to miss the football being there.cockney hammer wrote:heartbreaking psyco was up there last friday at ercans i tood there looking i could hear the get your ott west ham fanzine hats scarf and a badge's my old mate guy i swear i could smell the hot dogs burgers best day's of my life spent in that chicken run

I have been back a good few times in the 40 years last and to be honest I don't like the area at all now.
it's a world away what I was used to when I was a nipper in the 60's lets put it that way.

I think if you saw where the ground used to be (if you haven't already), it'd just break your heart, ageing.ageing hammer wrote:Samba,
