Adam Peaty
I know it's a minority sport so people often won't consider its athletes the greatest in the same way they might say, a footballer, who is more visible but f*** me , Adam Peaty must be the best athlete the UK has EVER produced.
24 years old, unbeaten in the 100m breast stroke in 5 years , smashing records almost every time he steps into the pool. Just added another World Championship to his already massive list of medals
For me it is the manner in which he is doing it too. He is not just beating his opposition , he is totally crushing them into a fine powder.
His win in the WC 100m was more than a second ahead of the silver medal winner.
A staggering physical specimen

No diggity, no doubt, the man is a MACHINE!
Agreed, one of our greatest ever athletes but due to the sport goes somewhat under the radar.

Re: Adam Peaty
I'm a bit of a Peaty fanboy but good article here
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/adam ... -pjqcp0f0v" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Holds the 14 fastest times in history over 100m and his halfway split at the Rio games was fast enough for a medal in EVERY major championship 50m race held to that point
Sad that he'll never really get the global recognition that he deserves

Re: Adam Peaty
Not sure about "Ever" in terms of athlete. Mr Daley Thompson and Sir Steven Redgrave might just pip him to that title.White Goodman wrote: Adam Peaty must be the best athlete the UK has EVER produced.
But what a swimmer!? Definitely the best we've ever produced.

Re: Adam Peaty
Yeah , all about opinions but I think by the time he is done , even Redgrave etc and our other greats, won't have a comparable record.
Although he won't get to Redgrave's Olympic medal total
I used to row at quite a high level and have a soft spot for Redgrave but to put it mildly , Matt Pinsent by anyone's definition was an absolute brute in the boat.
Redgrave latterly always had that on his side

Re: Adam Peaty
I have to say I'm not really interested in swimming as a sport, but it's clear from the stats Peaty is exceptional.
On a separate point, since the protests over the Chinese swimmer, ("I won you lost" - nice guy) I read up on the issues over FINA and their apathy to drug cheats. How are they allowed to be so behind cycling and athletics?
By all accounts the Chinese swimmer only got a 3 month ban for an offence, and then is being allowed to compete after his mum took a hammer to a blood sample. Madness.

Re: Adam Peaty
Fantastic achievement and a fantastic athlete.
Hopefully he'll be in the nominations for Sports personality of the year next time.

Re: Adam Peaty
Doesn't have the versatility of either but in his event is destroying records by bigger margins than either of them . Is about as untouchable in his main event as any athlete on earth right now and has been for years

Peaty is a legendy.
Golds (and one bronze) in 5 consecutive Olympic games, 9 golds, 2 silvers and a bronze ( over a 13 year period) at the world championships, one indoor world title and 3 commonwealth golds in the same games (1986);
In an endurance sport....
Peaty is an absolute monster, I'm not belittling him at all BTW.
