Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
so medel is a one year fix why not plan and buy a player who will be around for the next few years like fornals haller rice etc. buy quality once and you don't have to buy cheap twice !
Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
Owners not willing to spend the money. Haller cost £40mil and Fornals cost £24mil, we won't be spending that this window on an energetic CM/CDM they will use the Obiang money, Come on, you know all this already.hammerman11 wrote:so medel is a one year fix why not plan and buy a player who will be around for the next few years like fornals haller rice etc. buy quality once and you don't have to buy cheap twice !

So if we spend a bit more money (let’s say £10m) on a younger defensive midfielder to cover us for a few years, which £35m striker do we sign instead of Haller?hammerman11 wrote:so medel is a one year fix why not plan and buy a player who will be around for the next few years like fornals haller rice etc. buy quality once and you don't have to buy cheap twice !

Or we forget Fornals and get Hayden for a bargain £14mil instead!LeonRivers wrote: So if we spend a bit more money (let’s say £10m) on a younger defensive midfielder to cover us for a few years, which £35m striker do we sign instead of Haller?

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
we haven't even spent that much for the size of the club we are fornals and haller around 65m
arnie fernandes perez obiang byram around 41m
so a net spend of around 24m is not much.
plus reduced wages on carroll nasri oerez Adrian etc
so I cant see why they cant spend another 15-20m on a decent midfielder and get a free transfer Balotelli in.
we need that midfielder so much.

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
Hayden is much younger than Medel and is rated by Newcastle fans who do not want to see him leave. Whilst I don't have particular preference on who we bring in to replace Obiang (I trust Pellers and Mario), age is very important for the longer term and he is the sort of midfield signing we should be looking for. Not over the hill sticking plasters like Medel.
Hayden may be staying at Newcastle after all anyway according to the latest reports...:

Most of us would agree with you. We can't change that though. The budget isn't up to us and it looks like we are working with whatever we get for Obiang (ca. £7million).

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
We needed a CDM for years, we found Rice.
And now people claim we still need one.
Allardyce and Moyes would've been lynched if they started every game with two defensive midfielders.
Noble, Rice, Wilshere, Fornals, Lanzini and Snodgrass is plenty of talent.

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
as someone pointed out above some place...
buy quality once or buy cheap twice.
trouble is it ain't cheap these days.
I am giving Sanchez the benefit of the doubt and say we're paying him 50K x 52 x 2 = 5.2M
I think we paid about 2M for him and he's hasn't set the world on fire irrespective of his injury.
early days maybe.
anyhow 5.2 + 2 = 7.2M for a short term DM maybe not be much these days, however, even if he had stayed injury free last year, I doubt we would have renewed at the end of this season.
so now we're looking for another DM in the summer of 2020.
if we look at Medel, it's supposed to be let's say 5M transfer and assume he's on not more than 50K (Turkey pays pretty decent wages) that's another 5 + 2.6 = 7.6.
so 14.8M for 2 seasons worth of DM and we're STILL looking for a DM in the summer of 2020.
deferred payments of course and more than likely where we are as a club, but that should say more about our owners deep pockets and short arms.

Hudson-Odoi signs new contract at Chelsea worth around 100k a week. Absolute madness. Talented player for sure but the kid is 18 and hardly even played first team football.

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
I will keep saying it, but Erick Pulgar is apparently available for £10.8m which is roughly £2m more than we are getting for Obiang after add-ons.
Young, all action midfielder who is great at reading the game and a good tackler as well. Pellegrini has mentioned he has tried to bring more Chileans to West Ham (Aranguiz, Medel, Maripan), why not bring in one who will instantly improve our CM depth charts for minimal outlay. He may cost twice the fee of Medel, but will be easily on half the wages, if not less, and would actually have resale value as a worst case scenario.
Heck, you could even get rid of Sanchez for whatever fee anyone will pay and bring in this Palhinha chap as well!
CMs sorted, net spend ~£4m.

HH24 - that would be fantastic business and I’d be chuffed with that. Unfortunately I just think it’ll be as simple as Obiang out and Medel in. I prefer your suggestion though!
