A) Maybe. But some players thrive on a long run. If he’s playing well, I’d keep him in the team. He didn’t show any signs of needing a rest last year. I don’t remember Billy Bonds ever needing a rest.
B) ok. I agree - but that’s a different discussion.

Bologna didn't get European football.

we convinced Fornals to come when we have Wilshere and Lanzini @ AMC or Anderson on the left.

Haller is coming in with Hernandez @ F too

players have to come in convinced that they can compete for a 1st team spot or we don't need them.

getting a Medel or Sanchez if we are wanting to push on, is not progressive.

also it keeps Rice (and whomever else) on their toes.

I am not saying that I am right and everyone else is wrong.

all I am giving is my opinion as to what I would like to see and what I think we could use.

I think we could use a LB for sure, but as I posted before the news of Masuaku's new deal, I saw no way we were spending on any FB players.

maybe we ain't got no more wedge to spend, I have no clue.

maybe Pellers is more than happy with Sanchez. with what I have seen from him, I ain't convinced, but then again I am a retiree in Ecuador and not manager of West Ham United (London)

not digging you out at all, truly, but this is the transfer thread, the window closes in about 10 days and this is just where I see, from my limited viewing, for an upgrade on Sanchez and help for Rice.

The one area Rice is not that good at [yet] is tracking midfield runners. He is great and breaking up play and making tackles when the game is in front of him, and is very comfortable with the ball [in open play and tight areas] but he does struggle with supporting the CBs and full backs with keeping an eye and following runners going behind him IMHO
Partnering Rice with a midfielder with better defensive credentials/more strength/more dynamism than anyone else we have does not automatically mean going down the Burnley route, far from it

pellegrini brought sanchez in and keeps finding him minutes.

whether that's stubborness or seeing something that we don't, he seems to view him as capable backup to rice. which makes how we feel about it irrelevant really.

I suspect that we have little money left and, rather than rush and spend it now, are waiting to see what opportunities arise in the next two weeks. If decent striker on loan becomes available then the spend goes on mobile mid and vice versa. They may also consider that one or more of our players may be subject to bids - which may be worth then adding to for an upgrade.

Fornals and Haller both came in as first choice in much more fluid postions. If you read between the lines Haller even said Arnie leaving was a big factor (not directly).

DM is a really discrete position, rarely subbed and rarely doubled up on, unlike attacking midfield or forward.

I’d liken it more to GK than any forward position. Look at who we brought in as back up there... elderly journeymen.

Sorry mate I don’t understand the Bologna reference?

Pulgar plays for Bologna - so it would be quite a step up to move to us in the PL.

but as Pellers obviously likes Sanchez we shouldn't be talking about this any more......

Puff Daddy wrote:If there are to be any further acquisitions and I have no idea if there will be, or not, with Pellers and Husilios too, I should imagine, out in Austria until later in the week, I should think there is unlikely to be any movements until then. That will leave just one more week of the window to get a couple more in, but my every instinct is, the pot has now run dry and we are looking at a couple of loans. I would love to think otherwise, but I'm not very hopeful of any significant incomings. Could be wrong , hope I am
I don't think that's a problem. They were both in China when signed Haller.

Any lack of movement this week is more likely to be down to any combination of buying club, selling club, agents, players holding out for the best possible deal to present itself.

La Liga's transfer window opens on 1 July and will close on 2 September

The Bundesliga window also follows the same schedule, so will open on 1 July and close on 2 September.

In Italy, the Serie A window will open at the same time on 1 July, but will close on the slightly earlier date of 23 August.

France's Ligue 1 sides will be able to begin doing business on 16 June, and must have all their business sorted out by the deadline of 2 September.

these overseas markets might be waiting a little until after our window closes. some of those would have caused ripples maybe in the UK but ours closing earlier might mean little movement here

is this the first time the windows haven't almost coincided ???

That’s definitely how you make a deal happen, you throw in Cenk Tosun.

If Cullen was good enough he would have been OUTSTANDING whilst on loan. (Like Defoe at Bournemouth). He isn't good enough imo.

Oxford hasn't been rated good enough by Slav, Moyes and Pelli. As above.

Sanchez is better than both.

The best thing about Cenk Tosun is he is exactly as crap as you knew he would be the moment you first laid eyes on him. At no point did you think - £27m, must be something about him - nor has he ever once since then looked like he had anything about him. Just a straight up, no messing about, lemon for the ages.

Michael Owen was a great player for Liverpool - I don’t remember too many scousers being gutted that he lost it by the time he turned 30.

Besides, he was younger at the time he broke through, and his game was all about that burst of speed.
In fairness it was also about clinical finishing at the end of that burst. It's why he had na successful career at the top and Walcott never quite made that tier despite threatening to.

In fairness 2 sitting DM's is often deployed all over the place, though more often with a back 5 than a back 4 to free up wing backs. I think that Noble is often given the job of hanging back more than pushing on to help rice and certainly a minimum of 10 games a season where we should be considering doubling up.
