Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
We've still got a week, right?
Maybe we just need to let it play out before we panic.
My feeling is that the club is probably looking at a young striker (hence the Ajeti and Malen scouting/links. I think we're still being linked with Claude-Maurice as well) and a CB/DM type player, but we'll only get one in unless someone else leaves. Personally I think the second is more pressing, but we'll wait and see what Pellegrini wants to go for.
Someone like Claude-Maurice or Malen wouldn't take up an overage squad spot, so we could bring them in without a sale. Ajeti would, I think.

Easier to have a higher net profit when you have higher valued assets to sell.fjthegrey wrote:We also spent more than them last year as well.
their scatter gun approach to transfers a couple of years ago means they will continue to sell players. they have a number of high earners who don't make the first team squad. FFP means they will have to shift some out before buying more.

I looked through their transfers.
Three years ago they spent loads, and most of it was on absolute *****. Their wage bill must be monstrous though.

yes they're still recovering from it. If we were ever taken over by mega rich owners a quick look at their first summer under that management is the way NOT to go about transfers. A few paid off mind but looks like they are struggling to shift some.fjthegrey wrote:I looked through their transfers.

Suspect their fans are used to hearing all about FFP too.

Looks like Pellegrini is by and large happy with his squad even if there were no more new additions. But if opportunity arises in the remains of the window to add quality to the CB/DM and the striker positions (whether through purchase or loans), I believe he’d move and we have enough in the kitty to let him. There hasn’t been a lot of market transactions so far - so who knows what the last week of the window will throw up as the dominoes begin to topple? I like the lack of drama and the calm opportunism of it. Much better than the headless chicken panic buys of the past.

I did look back a dozen or so pages but the main topic of conversation (as is every summer) was about them. there was nothing else interesting to reply to.Sloop John B wrote:Ooooooh... you mention Everton a few times and look who pops up out of nowhere!!

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
Thing is wage bill, by all accounts, is a much better barometer of where a team will finish in the league than transfer spend, net spend etc etc. I think ours is something like 11th highest in the league, and we regularly finish around there.hammer1975 wrote: It is - £30m higher than ours per last SwissRamble numbers.

Everton are 7th, the top 6 are in their own mini league of six. Huddersfield were the lowest in the league and ended up bottom, Brighton 19th and were scrapping around there.
The difference isn't really as pronounced in the lower half of the league, but Everton are something like £20m short of Spurs in 6th and 20m more than Palace in 8th, which explains why they almost always are comfortably in and around the conversation for 7th.

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
I don't think we will be loaning anyone.
There is one more to come I am still hearing now we have shifted huggy bear but depends on a bit of a merry go round. Pelle is clear he at this stage doesn't want to look at plan B,C or D for the last spot, if he can not get his man in one of 2 positions he will leave it til next summer.

Pretty poor if they won't pay to get his Plan A in. They have the cash but do they have the will.

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
Maybe Pellegrini isn't overly fussed about new signings with what he has to work with and feels we are pretty much set for the new season? The full back issue is a case in point after the continual use of Johnson and Masuaku given a new lengthy contract, so those positions don't look to be much of a priority for the manager now.
