My STH Palace mate is already battening down the hatches; they've done nothing, transfers inwards, and have Zaha holding out for a new club, too.S-H wrote:Noticed that Hertha thumped Palace 4-0 today.

Re: West Ham United vs Athletic Bilbao - Match Thread
From today:
- Sanchez was playing better, imho.
- Balbuena is making also too many errors.. and that combined to the ones of Diop, its just a little too much.
- I will be a little scary, if Anderson get injured someday.. without him, we looked soulless, sometimes.
- Fredericks has also to take a look at some minor mistakes he mades near the penalty area.. Could cost us some games too
- Cresswell and Snodgrass played well too
- Yarmolenko has to learn also to pass easier, not to much fuzzing on middlefieldd, as he has the tendence to get caught and lose some dangerous balls there, that could cost us a lot too.
- Diangana is too lightweight.. has to work to hold on the ball and definition, as well.
- We need a new CB or a defensive MF, someone who make PRESSING in the middle or near the penalty area... as we need to avoid that the opponents comes in that easy.

Re: West Ham United vs Athletic Bilbao - Match Thread
It boils down to hard facts:
People bang on about left back .. right back .. cover for centre back ...
Can someone just remind me if we are so bad why did Roberto not have to make a save of note the whole game ?
He let 2 in, the first a slice of his own player, the second was pathetic from Cresswell and Balbuena should have been more aware of Williams coming in behind - was a replica goal like the Vardy one.
Overall we looked comfortable defending after the first mad 15 minutes.
Masa for Cresswell, Fred recovers so quickly he is a shoe in but needs to work on his final product.
Wilshere outstanding again and the five attacking players were a joy to watch.
Man City may have too much for us but I do fancy us to score one or two provided we don't hide in our shell.

Roberto is pretty a newby, so...
i will suppose, he was unsure about to react ot not.
But, FIRST, thats job of teh defender to be there and to avoid it, thats come that far till the goalie, imho.

So either we have started releasing tiny, tiny team sheets or our "programme" is now a magazine format, which makes me want to kill myself. I know it shouldn't bother me but it does.

From the highlights, it looks to me like Anderson and Lanzini are well up for the challenge of playing alongside Haller and Fornals.
Which can only be a good thing.

The trickery for his was outstanding... poor Roberto didn't know where the ball was before it hit the net...Rasp wrote:The trickery from Haller for the second goal was pure class.
Had a decent game today. Though he looked decent, in spells and obvs had a hand in both goals.
Re: West Ham United vs Athletic Bilbao - Match Thread
Great to see Haller doing some set up work.
Fingers crossed for him this season. A goal in his first competitive match is what he needs to start rolling. Sakho's record is there for the taking!

Anyone got a link for some decent highlights?
I can only find ones which miss whatever Haller did for the second goal.

Holy smokes how good was Wilshere . Said to the bloke next to me we better sub him before something happens to him. Quality performance .
Re: West Ham United vs Athletic Bilbao - Match Thread
The WHU official Facebook page has video of both goals including Haller working on the wing. Not sure if he did more than that shows though.stu1 wrote:Anyone got a link for some decent highlights?

They are on youtube - " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There's a couple of 'independent' versions on there as well - one was 10 minutes long.
As an aside, has the youtube embed code on here stopped working? it's not been showing properly in preview the last 2-3 days. Or is that me?

Thanks for posting that there, just watched those brief highlights. For their first, Anderson turned his back on the player as he put the cross into our box and our defenders were caught flat footed for their secondbubbles1966 wrote:They are on youtube - " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I enjoyed the game and with our attacking options and defensive frailties we should have an exciting season in true West Ham traditions.
My biggest worry is that I don’t think most of our players are ready for the start of the season fitness wise. They look a little heavy legged to me and you cannot ease your way in to a premier league season. You got to start fully fit.
At least we have one more game to build fitness chasing Man City players before we get down to proper business
