Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
Well I did mention it as a question when he signed having checked out his style on YouTube ( yeah I know). 'Out and out defender' he may be deemed but then so was Rice not so long ago and the brief and limited check did display that he looks very mobile and athletic so who knows maybe this potential role be it cover or more is foreseen by Pelle it's hardly unusual for defenders of this nature (after all he is flexible and athletic enough to play left back too) getting game time there and on the face of it game time at CB might be a little limited as things stand and at this level even for a young player with good first team experience. So let's see, the idea shouldn't be thrown out without consideration I feel.pezza20 wrote:Has anyone thought to stop and think maybe the youngster we have just signed is seen as a potential Rice back up option ....

Cardoso as a Rice back up. Now there's a thought. It's quite unusual, but I like it...
Did a bit of Googling and it seems Dybala (as a teenager) also sold his image rights to a third party in Malta, which means that any club wanting to sign him also needs to deal with them.
I suspect the most 'modern football' thing since that guy got a bad pimple from waxing his legs and couldn't play for Real Madrid.
Cheers Venice (and others) - seems like a bit of a mess.VeniceHammer wrote:It's usually more for the personal use of their own image in terms of getting sponsors. For example, in the recent past Napoli had a number of deals fall through for players because their owner was adamant in wanting to retain the image rights of the players. That means that the club will put the player's face on the ads they want, and any other deal made by the player with other companies has to go through the club.

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
I have been banging on about us buying another top draw midfielder, either a box to box athletic type like Doucoure, or a more tenacious deep lying player like Kante or Gueye, for about ten years.
However, it is clear as day that Pelligrini really doesn't feel the need for this type of player and wants us [for the majority of the time] to play with Rice and then players alongside him who are technically superb, rather than predominantly defensively orientated. If Pelligrini had really wanted a player such as i mentioned above , I think we would have got someone of that ilk earlier in the window.
Do i think they way Pelligrini wants to play will be effective? Who knows. Could we be in trouble if Rice gets injured? Yes, potentially so.
However, i do think Sanchez is perfectly capable of playing alongside Rice if the manager does want to beef the defensive midfield area up for a particular game or segment of a game

Interestingly a lot of that good work was done in a more advanced position than one might expect a traditional CB to be operating.S-H wrote:

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
I don’t think it does. I think it just means that Pelle sees Antonio as an attacking player. He’s not played centrally at all, that I can remember, this pre-season he’s played on the right. I think it means that Pelle thinks that Antonio can do a job in the middle if needed.YorksHammer wrote: I think that answers our question on what position Pellegrini considers to be Antonio's main one.

Maybe. But it would be hard work. Between quota rules, the so-called “English Tax”, his age, his ability and ultimately his desirability surely makes him more expensive than the likes of Wan Bissaka.fjthegrey wrote:We could replace Rice for way less than £60mil.

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
Trouble is I make that squad of 25 having 18 non-English/Welsh players.
So unless one of the foreign contingent is exempt to the homegrown rule in some way I don’t understand how the squad adheres to the no more than 17 foreigners rule????

Cardoso is under-age, so to speak, did you count him?

This is purely from my Football Manager knowledge.

Why not ? strikes me as an intelligent young man and someone who would be comfortable in several positions.pezza20 wrote:Has anyone thought to stop and think maybe the youngster we have just signed is seen as a potential Rice back up option ....
If his name was Gert Van Der'Cardoso we would expect him to play total football anywhere.

Which answers my Johnson? Question - add him to the mix, and we’re done.Patito wrote:

Until January
Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread
yep. squad looks pretty decent. LB looks like the only weak link but we never made a move for one so I guess we have to trust MP.Jarvo wrote: ..........................Rice...........Wilshire

and i'm not sure why people are worried about replacing obiang. he wasn't very good at all.
