Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham Utd: match thread
I don't think the cup final is a valid reason for Watford tailing off so badly last season. They got ten points from their last 11 league games - extend that to this season and it's ten points from their last 13 league games.
Six of those points came against Fulham and Huddersfield teams that were all but relegated when they played them, too. Granted, they also had losses to Man City, Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea in that run, so the raw stats maybe don't tell the whole truth, but more than anything they looked, and have looked, woefully out of form since they got to 40 points last season, and that has carried over into this season too from what I've seen.
Not saying we'll win easily, and I think this will be a tight one either way, but the 'one eye on the cup final' thing doesn't ring true unless you think they also had one eye on the cup quarter final at the end of February.

Pleased to see Deeney is out, and Doucoure and Pereyra are doubts, but they still have some good players who can hurt us - Deulofeu is the obvious.
Always a big game for me after growing up locally and lots of family and friends who are supporters (oh and the guy who’s the big furry bee ).
Last year was great walking back through a town centre I used to work in and go out to, after smashing them. With a good forecast, I’d love to do the same again!

Can I just say that I have no idea how this match will go.
Still too many unknown (and known) unknowns! It won't be pretty (again)!

Until players actually walk out on to the pitch to confirm otherwise the following seems to mostly hold true:
- any opposition players rumoured to be ‘doubts’ (rather than injuries which involve operations) have a sudden and miraculous recovery to play a starring role against us, and
- any of our own players rumoured to be a ‘doubt’ are suddenly out for two weeks ... along with at least one other (allegedly totally fit) player who becomes injured from nowhere and without being rumoured.

they haven't won for ages, haven't scored a goal yet ---- along come west ham ?????????
I think not this time. apply ourselves and we will win through.
cant see noble starting this one as only just back in training.
we need to compete centrally so maybe snoddy in for 60 mins
fab
fredericks diop Balbuena masuaka
rice Snodgrass lanzini
Antonio haller Anderson
subs Roberto Johnson ogbonna noble forrnals Hernandez yarmolenko
give jack the weekend off. he can play in wales
2-0 hammers haller and antonio

As MP always says 'we have to think and play like a big team'. We have the squad 'on paper' to have a far better season than last year. Investment has been good.
Teams like Watford in that middle third should not be worrying us anymore.
I will be disappointed with anything less than a win because they are in a poor place at the moment. Get a goal and there heads will drop (we know that feeling).
Looking forward to a good drink in the Moon and a nice sunny day for the footy.
9 am bus from high Wycombe. Can't wait.

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham Utd: match thread
The next two games really are a litmus test for this season and for Pellegrini.
The first two matches we had ready-made excuses for our performances - we played Man City in the first and had a few injuries to key players in the second. There are no excuses in these matches. We play a team who were of a similar level to us last season followed by a newly-promoted club. We have our best players fit. Should be looking at a very minimum of 4 points.

I'm going to miss watching this as I'm out all day - which generally means that we're going to play really well.

That's more like it. A positive prediction.Georgee Paris wrote:4-0 West Ham - back in the game
Far too much doom and gloom around here.
The weather will be perfect, our team will look gorgeous in their away strip and we will win.

No Deeney is good for us here. Diop seems to struggle more with physical strikers as seen in the Brighton goal last week. With Delefoeu and Pereyra I fancy he will be more happy as they aren't going to rough him up in the air as much.
Flip side is their big strong midfield could run over us if we don't get hold of the ball like we struggled after the first 20 mins last week. Hopefully with Anotnio, Noble, Haller and Anderson (yes really) we will have a bit more physicality to match them. Don't think all of the above need to play but some will help Rice out for sure and with Haller I'm confident the ball will stick better up top.
Given all that I've no idea how I see this one going. Winnable, definitely but we are West Ham so could be 4-0 either way and anything in between
