By the book, it should be retaken if missed, whether an encroaching player clears it or not. And that's always been the rule, just rarely enforced.

Our second chance came from Yarmo being able to make the right decision after the ball broke for us. Could have easily try to plow through and possibly lose possession but instead Yarmo was able to link up with the others.
