Re: ⚽ Aston Villa v West Ham United: Match Thread
I never had a problem with Villa. Maybe it was the Claret n Blue and a traditional white away kit but I was pleased when they won the old Div One title in 1981, the same season we smashed the old Div Two. However whatever soft spot I had for them disappeared with the whole Mannygate affair, hate them now and hope we spank them Monday night.
Great ground, but f*** em.

These are the tricky games.
Away from home, against a side we should beat.
Will be interesting to see what Pellegrini's plan B looks like, now that Antonio is injured for some time.

I am the same. Think their fans are one of the most fickle around.
Re: ⚽ Aston Villa v West Ham United: Match Thread
Part of my dislike for them is due to growing up in the west midlands and everyone assuming I was a Villa fan when they saw the claret shirt.

Mike Dean. On TV.
I've previously suggested the score will be 2-2. I will go one prediction further and say that we will get a stone wall penalty that Mike Dean rules out and refuses to consult VAR for.
2-2 but we will end up feeling like it's two points dropped...

With the crowd erupting into a chorus of "Baros, what's the score? Baros, Baros, what's the score?"

1-1 earning a respectable point away from home, whilst keeping the run going.

These international football breaks are stupid, so early into the season.
KO in this match is still nearly 5 days away.

Missed this thread first time round.... Good research chaps. I am always telling the Villa bet story to non hammers but will need be citing it as an urban myth going forwards!!!!Up the Junction wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 12:21 pm I hope you're not implying that we lifted theirs NI, as that would be doing a disservice to Old Castle Swifts, Thames Ironworks and our own Ironworx and mushy's sterling research!

Re: ⚽ Aston Villa v West Ham United: Match Thread
Villa are a team, for me, who I can generally respect, even envy, given that, in my lifetime, especially early teens, they won a fair amount (see below) and, importantly, still watch their team in a decent ground they've had for donkeys.
When they won the league, they did it with only 14 players and, if memory serves, the First Division was 22 or 24 clubs. They then cantered to the European Cup final and raised that aloft.
All this nevertheless translates into a deep satisfaction, if ever we go to Villa Park (a ground holding many memories for loads and loads of us), and emerge with a victory.
They're going to be desperate to get some points on the board. Hope our lads are up for it and in tune with one another.

Re: ⚽ Aston Villa v West Ham United: Match Thread
I sort of feel like this is a big match for us. They're the type of side we need to be beating if we want to be next level, though I think more realistically we'll probably end up drawing this one. Big match because the traditional big heads who are on the wobble all have difficult matches. Spurs, Chelsea, Man Utd, and even Everton and Arsenal all have banana peel matches. If we could bag the pts and not do our usual inconsistent unpredictable West Ham I reckon the fall will be a lot more interesting. Not thinking above our level, but it would be great if we could make things stressful among those fanbases.
