Having reflected on the Ashes tests summer, Both teams had excellent bowling attacks, but erm,...………... dodgy batting line ups

Re: England Cricket Summer 2019 ODI World Cup and Ashes
I had an excellent day at The Oval on Sunday - a great day of cricket and a good atmosphere.
A series that was decided by the injury to Jimmy Anderson. Not a lot to choose between the sides mainly because of Steve Smith who dragged them up a few notches.
Good to see Denly and Burns develop over the series and shows the merits of giving betters a run in the side. Roy had enough chances and maybe it isn’t his time yet for the 5 day game. Also good to see Archer develop and a shame Curran didn’t get more of a shout earlier on. Buttler and Bairstow need a rest from cricket - the amount they have played over the last year has no doubt affected their games.

Re: England Cricket Summer 2019 ODI World Cup and Ashes
Their bowling was better than than their batting was worse than ours...if that makes any sense at all!
Moving forward, I think MV has most of it spot on IMO:
Focus on how we we regain the Ashes in 2 1/2 years time - plan for that now
Make a decision on Broad/Anderson now - and stick with it
Bring Foakes back (he didn't explicitly say that - but certainly implied it)
Go with Denly & Burns...bring in a new #3 who likes to bat long (Crawly & Sibley appear to be next in line)
Root MUST bat at 4
Pope to come in at 6
Get the group of quality bowlers we have and manage them through the next 2 1/2 years: Archer, Broad/Anderson, Stone, Wood, Mahmood, J Overton - all bar Anderson a quick/quick enough and should do well in Oz
Get a single "supremo" type figure who manages across all formats - but have teams of coaches who are split between red & white ball cricket. when they aren't with England, they go back to the county set up and develop/scout players from there

Nice to see The Sun treating one of our heroes so brilliantly.
What a rag, the editor should be ashamed.

Hopefully the ECB response is a holding statement with more to come....otherwise it was very weak IMOBend it like Repka wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2019 8:50 pm Nice to see The Sun treating one of our heroes so brilliantly.

Re: England Cricket Summer 2019 ODI World Cup and Ashes
Somerset collapsing chasing 281 to win (96-6) and Essex going along nicely. Looks like a 12 point lead going in to the decider. I wonder of Leach will play for Somerset. Look like it will be a spin off with Harmer in the wickets again for Essex.
EDIT: Abbott has 16 in the match (and counting) for Hants, some return.

Abbott 17-85 for Hampshire v Somerset, best bowling performance since Jim Laker (my mum called him Freddie Laker earlier!!)wolf359 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 2:25 pm Somerset collapsing chasing 281 to win (96-6) and Essex going along nicely. The weather forecast is rain rain and more rain, good time to have a 12 point lead, a championship to add to the t20 trophy which will be picked up saturdaywolf359 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 2:25 pm Somerset collapsing chasing 281 to win (96-6) and Essex going along nicely. I was at Chelmsford yesterday. Essex are bang in form. Two centuries. Two five fivefers in the first innings and a seven fear in the second. I am very hopeful for tomorrow and will be shocked if we don’t win the Championship next week. Happy days for Essex fans

Squeaked through in T20, but in the CC we've been **** hot all season. Hopefully Sky will pick up the coverage as its a shoot out for the title.clawhammer wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2019 7:20 pm I was at Chelmsford yesterday. Essex are bang in form. Two centuries. Re: England Cricket Summer 2019 ODI World Cup and Ashes
Think Essex have a got a nice draw with Derbyshire for the semi rather than either of Worcs or Notts. Then on to the final and who knows? That Notts side is very strong in T20 though if they fire.
Good to see that the championship will be won by a 'smaller' club while 2nd will also be, and 3rd too if Kent can beat Hampshire at Canterbury. That would annoy the ECB immensely.
