It's not just Man Utd fans....

Post by bonzosbeard » Tue Sep 24, 2019 6:47 pm

It's not just Man Utd fans who have a superiority complex. I work with a smashing fella. A spurs fan but he's always pretty decent and loves a chinwag over the four years we have worked together.
He's not a season ticket holder but goes regularly and even went the the new stadium for the champs league final on big screens there despite living 150 miles away.
Well I can't chat to him about football now. Only golf and cricket as he has lost all interest in football.....
Talk about fickle.

To be fair, most Spurs I know have always been on the high end of the muggy scale

Superiority complex sums up Spurs fans. The reality is so far removed from what they generally think of their Club.

The axis of delusion runs from N17 through Birmingham (Villa Park) and Merseyside (the blue side of Stanley Park) up to Tyneside (Newcastle).

In my experience it's fans of these clubs who have the most warped view of their own club's importance in the grand scheme of things.

It’s weird, I had quite a few mates who I never even knew were Spurs fans until they got into the Champions League...then they remembered.

Yeah they do traditionally tend to hide their support and look miserable except in moments of inebriation, or are 4 points ahead of Arsenal with a game to play, at which point they inevitably flip and will endlessly tell you how they were the best team in the World in the early 60s and that surely entitles them to a Champions Leageu place every year. Scarily they aren't joking, humour really isn't their thing though for those who actually live in Tottenham, as I did for a year, I can fully understand that tbh.

They go out to the lowest Club left in the Round, 10th in League 2.

My spurs mate reckoned he didn't know it was played until I mentioned it this morning.

Spurs have always had an ability to "see the bigger picture", the trouble is the bigger picture never works out for them

For example, the mantra today will be, 'its only the tin pot cup', had they won it would be 'glory glory' etc.

They tend to believe that the more they tell themselves (and anyone in earshot) that they're a big club and a real European giant, the more likely it will be to happen

All things considered, I can suffer their joy, as long as i get to see their gut wrenching bitter disappointment at coming 4th in a 3 horse race

I dont reckon it's necessarily untrue.

Most of those I know don't seem to like football at all. Their thing seems to be being smug and gloating.

Always, 'we've got this player and you haven't, we're in this competition and you aren't, we've got a better stadium, we're the best run club.'

Never seems to be any self contained enjoyment in winning games of football. All about how they can lord it. Must be a very sad existence for many.

I'd add Forest fans to this too, at least it used to be when I lived there in the early 90s

are deluded fans any better than - or even different - to entitled ones?

i'd suggest l'arse, liverpool and man utd are the top 3 in that league.

I worked with a Tottenham fan who was the single most repellent human being I've ever met.
He, I think, was the catalyst for a lifelong hate affair with that club.
The best thing, I think, is how they react when you wind them up. It's like having a highly-strung younger brother.

Aren't we just as bad? Certainly been accused of it in the past.

I both enjoyed and enjured my drive home on Sunday, listening to muggy 'You-nah-tid' supporters filling the 5 Live and Talksh*te airways.

I particularly enjoyed "I don't mean to be rude to them but...come on...West Ham...we should be beating them all day long!".

I also look forward to the "your cup final" taunts when Spurs come over...a Tottenham support base who wouldn't know what silverware looked like if it bit them on the proverbial.

I find most of us to be pretty pessimistic and self-deprecating.

Easily squashed with a, 'Yeah, and we always win it! We get a trophy made up and conga round the stands with it at our next home game. SILVERWARE, unlike you boys.'

Just own it. Like Eminem in 8-Mile. They don't have anything after that.

my first ever visit to a top-flight game was in 1961 when I went to WHL with my older brother. Cos he was born in Sheffield he supported Wednesday, who were playing that day. Even at the age of 10 I looked round at the crowd and thought "what a load of smug *****". I'd already been primed by a playground full of glory hunters banging on about Spurs. Never quite got over my dislike for anything to do with them

Tottenham are top of the deluded list by a very long way.

Then Liverpool, followed closely by Man united and Wolves.
