They definitely did their homework on Yarmalenko. He was pushed back and had to resort to putting in 25 yard balls....which to be fair were pretty threatening.Hammer in Hornchurch wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 8:06 pm Thought lanzini was poor.
Noble was our best player today.
Palace got the rubof the green, but also got there tactics spot on. Yarmolenko was not allowed to cut in on his left foot, they had 4 or 5 players near him when he received the ball on the edge of the box.
Fornals needs to get up to speed with the prem league as he still looks way off.

We are doing pretty much as well as we could hope for. Sure, we could have done better today, but Roy is a very good manager and had Pell Boy sussed. Next time we will be better.

Re: ⚽ West Ham United v Crystal Palace: Match Thread
our flair players didn't today, didn't show any.
I would have taken off Anderson and left Yarmo on. he created much more, unless the computer chips showed him seriously tiring.
twice today Anderson wasn't even looking for balls played to him and they hit him in the back/back of the head.
not sure how many games Fornals has played @ RM and as for Wilshere.... him getting 10 minutes a game says a lot to me.
we have no one from the bench to change a game imvho.

Pathetic. No other word for it. First game of the season at that poor excuse for a football ground and not gonna bother going again. Palace were poor and there for the taking

The look of entitlement on Zaha's face, every time he is touched and drops to the floor like he's been shot.

Re: ⚽ West Ham United v Crystal Palace: Match Thread
bang on. We’re playing within ourselves and not committing enough players into the opposition box (so as not to get caught on the break given our obvious defensive frailty) and no real pace options on the bench to stretch the game in the last quarter against teams like Palace who have two strong banks of defence all game long.the pink palermo wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 7:53 pm Thought we generally played ok , created enoigh chances and should've got at least a ppint.
Palace had the rub of the green today and nicked a couple of points.
We're not scoring enough, we're not getting enough players in the opposition box often enough.
Disappointed but not overly crtical of what i saw.
Look at how deep Lanzini was whilst on the pitch to help cover Cresswell.
The negative reaction to today is as much down to the lofty expectations leaked by the club after a mediocre spend in the summer.
That result means that we are behind last season points-wise on comparable games. Next step Goodison - where we won last season...

The slow build up and side ways passing is because we have slow players. Our quickest player likes to drop onto the half way line for some reason.
Haller, Yarmolenko, Noble and Lanzini are all are properly slow and Anderson doesn't hurt teams with his pace. The only pace we have in attacking positions is when Fredericks and Masuaku overlap and we are missing Arthur at the minute.

We need Antonio back...just don’t have his pace anywhere else.
Disappointing to not score more against a team with a back 4 including Joel Ward, Gary Cahill and Martin Kelly given the attacking talent we have.

What legs have Noble apparently lost? He never had any when he was 18. It's like saying Sheringham lost a yard of pace; we're not talking about the demise of Michael Owen here.

Re: ⚽ West Ham United v Crystal Palace: Match Thread
Palace were uninspiring and functional, but we were absolute suckers and gifted them goals.
We got done by them like we used to get done by Hughton's Brighton. Little space, then we had few ideas, which often leads to us getting frustrated and really sloppy at the back.
We were ok at times, but a few like Noble and Yarmolenko were notably poor, as was Lanzini. Think some of the midfield absolutely allowed themselves to be bullied into playing the game Palace wanted to play. Saying that, Lanzini operated deeper than Noble and Pellegrini didn't seem to do anything to change that.
The injury to Antonio and lack of a real alternate striker (that the manager is confident in) were evidently a problem here. We couldn't really change what we were doing, just doing it more but with a couple different players.

It's not just his pace, it's what he does with it, he's so direct it's virtually impossible to defend against.il_martello_di_genovesi wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 8:19 pm We need Antonio back...just don’t have his pace anywhere else.

When we played straight down the channel we look much better, we’re to easily pushed out wide, it’s not as if we stick crosses into the box.

Antonio is a massive miss. On a day like today we look to the bench and we see more of what we already have on the field, rather than something different.

Was unwell so watched it on the tv. We were very flat and slow. Never got out of 2nd gear and didn’t really look like winning the match.
I thought the manager made 2 shocking subs and secondly I’d like to know why nobes is our furtherst forward midfielder. Yes he did ok today but Lanzini should be playing 15/20 yards higher up the pitch, not noble. Offers us nothing as when he does get the ball higher up our creative players are/were behind him.

So palace get 1 chance and a pen and come away 2-1 winner's... OK it happens, but I thought overall we were as flat as a pancake and we had zero zip to our game which we needed. No invention at all. Palace were happy to sit back and counter and I actually thought they were crap too. Big chance to go third wasted as we couldn't force the issue
Re: ⚽ West Ham United v Crystal Palace: Match Thread
Robbed.
"Penalty" very very soft at best.
Dive off the slightest touch for the free kick that led to the second goal. Eclipsed by the two handed drag down on Haller that wasn't given minutes later.
Not to mention that Zaha should have had 3 yellows for screaming at Lino's about decisions let alone the half a dozen he should have had for diving. All in advance of the soft soft free kick for the second.
Filth all over the pitch. BFS would be proud of that palace performance but it sickens me.
We need to be more clinical in front of goal too. A handful of solid chances pissed away by a lack of calm and ultimately skill.
****ing robbed. What did they actually create other than the second goal, a ball across the box that was to no one and a penalty that would have looked soft if awarded to ****ing Victimpool? (And don't mention the Zaha clearence off the line it was offside).
2 things VAR has overturned to give goals in the league this season, both against us.

Gutted to lose that like that. Just knew the goal was gonna be given when it takes so long.
Thought Palace pretty much parked the bus and worked hard limiting the spaces between the lines. They got a bit of luck and our play at times seemed slow....but that could have been because they were so well organised.
Soon as you lose, something or someone needs blaming. Horrible way to lose that game today but it's only our second defeat this season.
Thought Gary Cahill was superb at the back and doesn't look like someone in his mid-30's.

Noble was also in wide positions quite a lot, he was everywhere, just trying to make things happen, others need to take a leaf out of his book.
