Reid misses another return

Post by Cuenca 'ammer » Tue Oct 08, 2019 7:54 pm

West Ham under 23s go into action tonight and once again Winston Reid is missing.

And there are now worries that it could be weeks before the injury stricken central defender is fit to make a competitive appearance.

After being penciled in to play a part in the Development Squad’s last three games, Reid is still not ready

He is now over three years into that lucrative six year deal and has played about three games. Nice work if you can get it. Still looking on the bright side, in just over six months time, he will have only another two years left on that contract

I'd actually forgotten that he was still a West Ham player. :|

He’s 31 so no reason to think that he won’t play for us again, and better that he’s 100% rather than breaking down from coming back too soon.

Done the list of why the fella gets my respect to death whenever it comes up, but can add “Hugh Southon who doesn’t even go to games slagging him off” to that list now.

& Puff - why do you care about the length of his contract? It’s not your money

Doesn't look good.

At some point you'd think he would do the honourable thing and retire. Surely, we wouldn't allow him to drag this out for another 3 years?

We don’t really have an option.

He makes Carroll look ever present.

If this was Carroll everyone would be doing their nut... still unsure why Reid gets off a lot more lightly than Carroll

Why would/should he?
Or do we think he's swinging the lead?
I actually feel sorry for the bloke, as I thought he pretty much gave his all when playing for us, and am fairly certain he didn't hold a gun against the boards collective heads when his (admittedly ridiculous) 6 year conract was offered.

This is true, but Reid probably isn't as recognisable as a big Geordie and used to play for one of the worlds "biggest" clubs, and his missus is reality TV "star" so Reid will be less snappable.

Sure there was a story that during last season's pre-season camp they both broke curfew and snuck back in by climbing through a window.

Reid has played well over 200 games for us and has been one of our best servants in the last decade - he's been here ten seasons come the summer.

He suffered an horrific injury. He hasn't wasted his career down the boozer, he got very, very unlucky.

I'm speculating completely, but given the length of his outstanding contract, I wouldn't be surprised if the insurers are insisting he goes through all sorts before they pay out and accept that he'll never be able to play at anything like PL level again. I'd love to be wrong. A player who will be remembered as absolutely West Ham when his career is over.

For simply scoring THAT goal, I will never utter a bad word against him.

Hope we one day get to sing his name in Claret & Blue once more.

Reid was pretty much our best player during the Sam Allardyce era and at 194 league games, a very loyal servant.

Hopefully we’ll see him run out again in the claret and blue but his last game was in March 2018, that’s a hell of an injury.

If you are able to name a better West Ham defender over the last ten years.., oh forget it

Reidys earn’t his stripes with us, he’ll be back once fit and if not thanks for the memories. I personally have no problem with him collecting a wage off the board.

Exactly.

Surely it’s fairly obvious. :?
