Cobra Kai on YouTube.

For someone my particular age, this has been a rare and simple pleasure.

Well done to YouTube for making it free once the initial month or so on YouTube Premium is up.

2 series down now . Daniel San's karate is still laughably ****.

Been watching too SH?

Never thought in '84 that as a 44 year old man I'd ever be rooting for Johnny Lawrence 😃

Episode the other night when they broke Tommy out of the cancer ward for a few final beers (played by the same actor who was terminally ill in real life and now.dead) . Epic stuff for me really as it makes you look back at all that has happened in your life since you went to the now demolished Classic cinema in Westcliff to see it

Would love Last Caress to write a piece on it

That said it has meant many questions I had about the original Karate Kid films have now resurfaced.

Including but not an exhaustive list :

1. Why does a kids' karate tournament end up being a life or death matter almost literally? First film , Johnny and his friends would have pretty much killed Daniel if Miyagi hadn't jumped over the fence (sprightly for 75 years old and just hanging out at 10pm around the bins by his gaff) beaten the **** out of them . Same for bullies in films 2 and 3.

My 6 year old girl does karate around the corner from my house, her first grading or whatever it was didn't result in some vicious 7 year olds pursuing some brutal agenda against her. To be quite honest her instructor is a very nice bloke and doesn't teach her to beat people in the head when they are down.

2. Karate in the US was at a significantly high level in the 1980s. Miyagi in the third film is able to ruin Mike Barnes , John Kreese and Terry Silver one after another.

Clearly, three very high level karatekas, whilst not receiving one blow in return and being at least 35 years older than any of them. Geezer would absolutely rule UFC

3. With point 2 in mind , why does Kreese attack Miyagi in almost EXACTLY the same way that saw him get his hands punched through car windows at the start of film 2. At the same time giving it the large to Silver ("it's party time," "we're old friends"etc etc like he expected to ****ing win or something before receiving yet another humiliating beating from an old man) This time ends up on the receiving end of some knees before being lobbed onto the floor.

Silver having seen his best mate,US Army Karate Champion John Kreese utterly destroyed then forgets to take Miyagi seriously and engages in some racist gesturing before also getting annihilated.

4. Why does high level karate exponent Mike Barnes get knocked out by his hands hitting a light switch in the aforementioned fight scene?

5. Why is podgy high school kid , Daniel Larusso, such a fanny magnet? Bloke is an absolutely ****. Pulls an awesome ,albeit slightly chubby Elisabeth Shue in film 1 and an absolutely amazing Japanese sort in film 2 without even trying.

6. Why doesn't Daniel inform the police about the fairly serious assaults dished out by Cobra Kai instead of finding a very handy Okinawan karate kicking janitor living in his block of flats to teach him black belt level karate in two or three weeks by getting him to do all his housework for him .

7. Finally, why does Miyagi nearly get Daniel killed in film 2 , having mentioned in film 1 that if the Crane Technique is done properly, no can defence, only for it to be comfortably fended off in his fight with Sato's nephew. Prick!! Thanks for that Miyagi you stupid Japanese slaphead.
