Re: England Cricket Summer 2019 ODI World Cup and Ashes
I don't usualy bother with county cricket but that was a fine advert for the game yesterday. Great to see plenty of local lads in the team as well alongside the overseas stars. I counted three born at Whipps Cross hospital!

I can't cope with this Essex winning, West Ham winning, I even had a winner on the horses yesterday
I'm finding it traumatic I'm just not used to not having some disappointment over the weekend

Cracking result for Essex Eagles in the T20, and a great performance from Harmer.
A few more days and they could well do "the double".
Amazing for a "small" county.

What yesterday really needed was about 20 balls less per innings. I was speaking to my sister and her and her kids just couldn't get their heads around anything past the 100th ballVic_Watson wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 6:28 pm I don't usualy bother with county cricket but that was a fine advert for the game yesterday. Re: England Cricket Summer 2019 ODI World Cup and Ashes
Bairstow dropped fromm the England Test squad. Actually I reckon it's more being 'rested' - why else would they give him a new Central Contract only a few days ago? The NZ tour doesn't count to Test Championship, so agree it is the perfect time to try new players.
HOWEVER, what I find really strange is the England T20 squad. I understand they are probably mindful of the amount of cricket Buttler is playing, so that explains his absence, but to leave out Ravi Bopara is just mental!!

Re: England Cricket Summer 2019 ODI World Cup and Ashes
I've read that Ravi has had a falling-out with the ECB's powers-that-be, but don't know any more than that.
What is strange is that Essex, with a limited overs trophy this season and taking the County Championship to the wire, as well as being third last year, and unbeaten champions the year before, have no-one in the squad.
Jamie Porter, with more wickets than any other English bowler since 2015, doesn't get a look in.
Somerset, also with a limited overs trophy this season and taking the County Championship to the wire, have three players in the England squads, with Leach in the red-ball & Banton and Gregory in the white-ball.

The Porter one is odd. But honestly, I don't think anyone else is worthy of an England place....yet.

Harmer qualifies in 2021, on current form they’d be mad not to even in his early 30’s. Can he keep it up is the question.westham, eggyandchips wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 9:43 pm ^^^

He's not quick enough for test cricket 80mph just doesn't cut it at that level, same with Cook.westham, eggyandchips wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 9:43 pm ^^^

Leaves Essex with a decent enough county attack though
Harmer has played test cricket for South Africa can't really agree with allowing him to play for England

Yeah, there's not really anyone in the Essex team that'd get into the main England teams. Harmer is a Saffer, and Essex's other bowlers are the usual by-product of playing all our county championship games on green seamers in April and September.

England beat NZ on a super over again and take the series 3-2, not seen too much of this due to time difference but great to know we are good in 'penalties' in at least one sport.

1st test in NZ gets underway in about 15 minutes. Diet makes his debut.
Hopefully we do better than 58 all out like the last time we faced the Kiwis on day one of the first test of the series!
Boult, Southee etc are class bowlers...would be great to get off to a good start to the winter.

Winter is here, over night Test Cricket. Settling down to watch upto Lunch, looks very placid there. Should be a batting day.

Quite like the look of this line up.
Burns showed some promise and Sibley was the obvious choice to get in to partner him.
Denly, whilst not a long term option with his age, showed he was somebody who could fill in at 3 for now.
Root at 4, we can only hope rediscovers his form in his preferred position when ideally he won’t be coming in too early.
Stokes at 5, nothing needs to be said.
Pope coming in at 6 reduces the pressure on him whilst he learns at this level.
Buttler back with the gloves. I think he’s the better keeper compared to Bairstow and probably the better bat too. Hard to pick them both in this line up. Foakes still waiting in the wings too.
Curran, Archer, Lynch, and Broad currently pick themselves for me too.

Whilst posting the above Sibley goes for 22. Nice to get a 50 opening partnership though, haven’t been too many of those in recent times!

241-4 is a strange thing to see. Usually about 30-4.aaronhammer wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2019 11:40 pm Whilst posting the above Sibley goes for 22. Nice to get a 50 opening partnership though, haven’t been too many of those in recent times!
It makes a huge difference when theres a decent opening partnership.

Re: England Cricket Summer 2019 ODI World Cup and Ashes
I hate the away series in Australia and New Zealand, as it's always a struggle to get to see any of it. Especially New Zealand.
I'll probably have to battle the missus for control of the tele for the highlights as she'll be watching I'm A Celebrity.
Anyway, like the look of the line up. The sort of line up we should have had earlier in the summer rather than trying to shoe horn Roy in as an opener, and then shuffling everyone around constantly trying to patch all the leaks.
241/4, the sort of solid start we could have only dreamt of not long ago.
