Traore is fast, and would outsprint 99% of left backs, but what did he really create?

Yep, anytime he got the ball he was happy just to drive at our retreating back line. His direct play yesterday was very good. We couldn't deal with it.Knighter10WHU wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 11:34 am He created panic and pulled players out of position to cover Cresswell who was scared to put a foot in except on one occasion.

We can't cope with hard working teams, that don't give us any time on the ball, our passing and any meaningful possession goes out window.
It's been the same for years.
Give us some space and we can look ok, against the teams at the very bottom and oddly, some top teams.
Lack of work rate and so good movement, gives the man in possession few options, he ends up running into a brick wall, losing the ball or going backwards.
If you've got a squad of limited players, which we have, you have to make up for it with graft!

Re: ⚽ Wolverhampton Wanderers v West Ham United: Match Thread
A typical West Ham performance of recent years.
Gave the opposition two goals with poor defending all round.
Got into some good positions and the final touch/ball was not good enough. Never really put the opposition under any real pressure.
Give the ball away far too easily, we hardly won a tackle or second ball all night.
You know that we will get caught on the break due to our own poor play and pay for it.
It wasn't a terrible performance it was a mediocre one and that won't get you any points against a hard working well drilled team who simply want it more.

Re: ⚽ Wolverhampton Wanderers v West Ham United: Match Thread
I got home at 1am last night.
I thought we played well. The build up to Fornals curler was a great bit of football, if that had gone in that would have easily been our goal of the season. Even the ref had a quick word with Fornals after it. Think Fornals will turn into a good player once fully adjusted to this league. Some of the runs he makes are fantastic, just that some of our players don't look up to spot them when they are on the ball.
Anderson in the middle, playing the 'Lanzini' role is good.
We look far more dangerous when Fredericks realises that he can over lap and get forward.
Yarmalenko gets on my tits... we must have signed the only 6"3' Ukrainian that don't look up for a fight. We defend corners and have him jumping in front of the kicker rather than putting his height to use and have him marking a player, while we have players like Noble having to mark taller players than themselves, madness.
Wolves are a really good side, they know their strengths and play to them well.
Tough place to go on a cold mid-week night, hopefully we get to play there next season on a Saturday.

Wolves are a very good side and I dont think too many expected us to get anything from the game. But his was their third game in seven days and they never had to get out of first gear. We started alright and there goal was soft, but we looked slow and laboured, created one chance all game and never looked like scoring whereas they got in behind on a few occasions. i think we could still be playing and not have scored.
I was there and spoke my Wolves supporting mate after the game who thought we were "very poor" and he "expected better".

Plenty of the ball and huff and puff but no real end product. If Antonio played last night we would've given them more of a game. Very blunt in attack.
Not sure why he took Haller off for Ajeti. Thought that was odd. We were 1-0 down at the time, why not play them together?
Edit - another game that was perfect for super sub Hernandez to come on and grab a goal. Oh hang on............

Re: ⚽ Wolverhampton Wanderers v West Ham United: Match Thread
Here's some notes I wrote while watching the game:
Soft
No urgency
No one willing to put their body on the line
Going through the motions
No drive
Not doing the simple things: get crosses in, get players in the box, work hard, have a dig at goal.
Generally just ****
Isolating the big man up front
Slow build up
Dull - boring
No spirit
Willingness to accept defeat.
When I look at that list for a professional football team that is disgusting. How can the loss of one mans willingness make such a difference? Sadly, the manager and his team cannot lift these players. Collectively they need a rocket up their arse.

I though we played with the same determination as we did against Chelsea the only difference is that we had no Antonio. If Antonio starts that game we at least get a draw last night, maybe even more.

Should have watched it from your sofa, mate. That was Fornals who played that pass to Snodgrass.Pentonville wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 12:34 am ?? just back from Wolverhampton, can't believe all the sofa warriors on this thread complaining about the team performance. That was one of the best performances of the season IMO, against a very skillful and confident Wolves team. Haller aside, everyone performed well, especially Anderson who really suits that mid forward central position, his cross pitch pass to Snoddy was inch perfect, hardly any need to control it, but he still fluffed it.

Re: ⚽ Wolverhampton Wanderers v West Ham United: Match Thread
Let's face it, if Rob was in goal, we'd have probably lost 4 or 5 nil.
Our performance wasn't terrible, very much a continuation of the improved team that we saw at Chelsea. Far, far better than the previous 2 months performances.
Haller is getting a lot of stick. We've got to give him more time & better players with him, before we completely write £45m off.
Yarmo is a strange player. If anyone is expecting that he should be charging down the wing, creating a devastating attack, he isn't that player. In terms of running, he is quite slow but he is quite skilled with the ball. Trouble is, I think he's a bit of a luxury player but to accommodate one of those, you've got to have the rest of the midfield & attack, firing on all cylinders, which we never have & haven't got. As a result, sadly Yarmo often then becomes ineffectual; a luxury player, that we can't afford to have.
Anderson seemed far better down the middle, than stuck out on the wing. Fornals is finally starting to show real promise.
For a left footed player, Snoddy's second touch in that one on one with their keeper, was truly awful.
Still major problems, all over.

There's a case to be made that he was our best player last night. That pass for Snods deserved better.

Yep, it said on MOTD last night that Wolves were looking to go 10 games unbeaten in the top flight for the 1st time since 1972. Another one to add to the West Ham record books. Can always rely on them to re-write history, generous to a fault.steps wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 10:41 am Wolves got a plucky goal from a badly defended corner on our behalf (how many times have we conceded from corners in the last couple of seasons?)
After that, they just sat and invited us to attack. When our attack inevitably broke down they swiftly countered. They play like this at home all the time, they rarely drop points from winning positions. Also they are unbeaten in 10 now ( believe.)
